Doesn’t really make sense.

1. Sheaf has to want to leave.
2. Sheaf decides which club he might want to join. He decides that, not you, so it might be Luton. Or Little Piddle on the Wold FC.
3. The buying club then has to meet Covs asking price which sounds as if it might be £10-12 million.
4. If Vik hasn’t moved, then City don’t get any extra money.
5. Fans need to stop spending the Gyokeres money in advance.
6. If Gyokeres is sold in a part exchange deal, then we don’t get any money
Well, point 2 is only predicated on who the club wants to sell him to. If we reject offers from Championship clubs, Sheaf doesn't move to the club, only when he is unattached does he have that choice.

This has been explained several times before but in the event that Gyokeres is sold in a part exchange deal we still get money. Any players included are valued as part of the deal and we still get our percentage.

Agree with that.

Like it or not, now is the right time to sell Sheaf.

We don’t know what’s happening but if Sheaf has told the club he wants to go or, at least, won’t sign a new contract, then absolutely the clock is ticking.

We can’t afford for him to wind his contract now, so it’s £12 million now. £8 million in January. Free in 2 years.

Sheaf holds all the cards. So let’s hope he will sign a new deal

Your argument about Sheaf's value automatically decreasing in a year's time isn't actually backed up previous experience. Plenty of posters on here were urging the club to sell Hamer and/ or Gyokeres a season before we did using the same argument, that it was too great a risk to wait a year and risk them going into the last year of their contract, with their values then decreasing. If we had sold at that time we would have been looking at £8m for Gyokores and £5m for Hamer, well below what we ended up getting for them!

If we are offered £12m for Sheaf the club need to balance whether he can improve still further (as Hamer and Gyokores did) and his value increase, or whether he is at his peak now and his value is therefore as high as it can go. There's also the uncertanty over whether Gyokores will provide us a windfall and move on, which could also lessen the need for us to sell Sheaf. I'm happy to trust MR's judgement on this, whatever it might be.

And you said I Dont make any sense🤷

1. He does if he can play in the top flight. Happy to try get there again with us if not
2. Hes openly stated even in the Wembley programme, he wants to play in the premier league. Also the club are aware. Luton are not premier league.
3. It isn't either of them. Its 15 or above with add ons or no deal. We do not have to sell and he still has 2 years left.
4 and the rest. This brings me to my earlier comments, If Vik doesnt move on i will be watching on to see if Doug decides to spend as it will be the first window in Which he wont have any windfall

Why do you dislike Doug ? It’s implied in most of your posts ?

I dont dislike him. I'm wary of him.

-He came out of literally nowhere, not even aby news articles or inside info from anyone on a takeover.
-He openly admitted hed never been to a football match
-He openly admitted he didnt know where the CBS was yet was willing to pay £25 million when Frasers were completing on the place
-Where is said £25 million if so?
- I know people choose not to believe this but he didn't 'buy' the club
- Everything is 5 years ( which is now 4 years), 5 year prem package, 5 year stadium deal, 5 year 'journey'
- He lucked into Vik and Gus. Very easy to reinvest the cash on something you've just acquired for next to fuck all and then lands £30million plus in your lap and a kick away from the prem
- People forget the absolute shitshow with basic things such as ST's and Kits last summer
- Hes rown back on decisions more than Steve Redgrave

I will openly say I feel he has done very well for us, the CBS feels like home now, the team and Ryton are in a million times better state and of course I am glad we have him over SISU 1Million percent, and the club is carrying on the upward trajectory under him.

I just cannot shake a distrust for him, and where he came from, from the things i am told (and you've all seen the high hit rate on that bar the obvious we've covered) and the fact that he's not actually been tested as an owner, no hard decisions, no need to put his hand in his pocket as of yet

I hope the wave continues and we get where we belong

He did buy the club.

If someone owes you money and they give you something in exchange for that debt then you have bought that item for that value.

I have been a city fan for over 40 years and whilst it is still early days I don’t recall a better owner at the club. I know some might say John Poynton but frankly I was a teenager and only interested in the team not the ownership.

King could have banked almost all of the Vik and Hamer money and totally derisked his ownership. He didn’t. He invested it back in the club.

The club was a shambles off the field and in trying to modernise it quickly he has made some errors, listened, and made revisions. I’m ok with that.

Time will be the judge of King but he’s got off to a better start than I could have ever hoped for.

We get the value of the players exchanged in such a deal so we won’t walk away with nothing.

I think the club will have a decent sized kitty for transfers this summer, i also think the club will love the fact fans etc will believe we have nothing to spend. Why would any club want their fan base to believe we have a huge kitty, Man United forever get rinsed by other clubs because of this.

When there is an air of uncertainty in the fans minds the club will always be in a win win situation, there is no unrealistic expectation to sign players for huge sums, and the clubs Coventry City are trying to buy players off will likely have a realistic fee in mind.

more than happy to give doug the benefit of the doubt, tbh. i tend to do that until they do something that changes my opinion.
we're deffo in a better place than we were even a year ago. and there's a very real buzz about the place.
i'm sure doug will be tested, and we'll just have to see how he handles that. but at the moment i'm totally behind him, the staff at the club, and even you bunch of crazies. 😘

As much as it pains me to partially agree with freaking Epsom Derby over here, but he's not wrong. With that being said, I do like the direction the club is going, plus freaking RedRum here is a prick, so who knows

3 things have to happen for Sheafo to leave

1. Someone has to offer £15million or more with some hefty add ons Vik style
2. Said club has to be Premier league, not a Luton or Burnley
3. If Vik / Gus hasnt moved on late in the window to add to the kitty Doug may get an itch trigger finger

None of those are happening.

And if they are, lump your money on relegation for whoever does.

What do you mean exactly when you refer to this ‘acid test?’

The club is increasing its spending on infrastructure and is a loss making enterprise, we need to be realistic on what we can spend. Last season was a real treat because of the windfall we had from Hamer and Vik.

Naturally, we’re still reliant on bringing in transfer revenue to fund future transfers. A potentially £8-12m for sell on fees is equivalent to selling a star player in previous years.

As for Sheaf, he’s an our best player and at the peak of his value. It would pain me if we sold him but if it meant we got to spend 70-90% of the fee, I would accept that as the cost of doing business.

You see the attitude of ‘Doug needs to put his hand in his pocket’ in relation to transfers. Which, if you’re losing £4-7m (or more) a season, that’s the equivalent of a record signing (Haji Wright) just to keep the lights on.

As you say, us fans are doing our bit and the clubs messaging is optimistic too and no scaling back/tempering expectations yet.

Sheaf is not our best player.

Absolutely laughable opinion.

He leaves and we reinvest that money. We are much better off next season. I'll challenge anyone who thinks different to a charity bet. Then again, still to this day no one wants to take me up on it. Says everything.

When you say it like that it does make sense and have merit.

Season tickets, the kit, the exec boxes all last season were a disaster but I’ll give him benefit of the doubt as was first season doing it, if it’s the same this season I won’t.

Even the sponsor was a fiasco and by the looks of it we could be finding it the same this season if Monzo have pulled out or not.

Hes new to being an owner and I accept there will be mistakes as long as each time they happen he learns from them unlike SISU

Did Sheaf shag your Mrs or something? Genuinely curious as anyone with eyes and a functioning brain can see he’s our best player

Regarding Doug King I am also sceptical. He’s not invested anything into the transfer budget himself, all come through player sales. Until he puts some money where his mouth is I’ll be on the fence about him

what a load of tosh.
What’s a load of tosh? King has walked into the jackpot - Robins had us doing a miracle, we got to the play off and King got 35m in assets.

to his credit he’s allowed us to spend the 35m we brought in whilst demanding 3 appearances in the play offs In 5 years- that requires significant investment.

if we don’t bring in money this year - is king going to support his requests for the play offs?

being wary of king is logical - the acid test is this summer. We’ll get 20k season ticket holders - as requested, is he going to invest himself now we haven’t got 35m from sales?

Vik was our best player and left and we reinvested and got better. That’s what happens with the best players. Dabo left and we got better too but it was fuck all to do with him leaving because he got us no money, because he wasn’t our best player.

You have the most bizarre way of ranking players.

I've wondered on this is the value set by a tribunal?

Is there anything to stop the two teams saying in the contract the player being swapped was worth £5m or so? Then if both teams have sell on clauses they both benefit.

I really admire the confidence in which you post this.

At our level, it’s necessary to sell players and use the funds to improve the team. So I don’t disagree that selling Sheaf could leave us better off if we bring several quality players.

Obviously gutted to have lost Hamer and Gyokeres, but we’re better off now that we’ve sold them.

But let’s not kid ourselves the alternatives were Sisu for longer or possibly William Storey ( 🤯).

We didn’t have an emirate billionaire desperate to buy us, in fact any interest in buying us for the previous near decade was via Gary Hoffman trying to rescue us from Sisu.

sitting on the fence with King is like replacing Godden with Jota but not enjoying it because you would have preferred Harry Kane.

If we get back to the Premier League I doubt King will be the long term owner but for now for the first time in 20 years we are actually trying to do it.

investing in the team in a material way ✅
Improving scouting and buying players with potential ✅
Using data analytics ✅
Greater adoption of sports science ✅
Investment in training ground ✅
Open communication with fans / media ✅
Commercial proposition being modernised ✅
Season ticket sales at record levels and prices frozen ✅

That sounds like progress to me …..

The Doug takeover seemed a bit too good to be true so I get the initial stand-offishness. However he’s done a tremendous job since he took over and I’m not sure why anyone is still questioning him.

Is he not exactly what you want in an owner? Runs the club sensibly (albeit we are still loss making), backs the manager, engaged with the fan base and listens to feedback, and attends nearly every match.
