I grew up in one of the 5 areas, it is probably in a better state now than it was in the late 90s into the 00s.
Parts of Coventry do look very shabby now, the litter is just disgusting.

He must go around the country and do these and all areas will have places like this. He keeps going on about high crime rates but a stranger walking around with a camera has no issue. The littering is ridiculous though the people there seem to have little pride.

Same. I’d absolutely love to live in a proper high trust society like bits of East Asia, though without the high suicide rate. Graffiti, litter, loud music in public, just little things that make the environment and life generally just that little bit shit every day.

In the early 80’s I had a tear living in Hyson Green - which at the time was classed as the most deprived area in England

I lived in digs - the thing is though the old couple I stayed with were dirt poor but kept everything clean - cooked for me every day and though bizarre and eccentric kind hearted.
I came in one day and they were having a bigger party with others in the street to celebrate the opening of channel 4 and we all watched countdown.
There is zero excuse for sloth and creating litter

I believe in the time that the club moved away from Stoke the council have cut back how often they clean the streets or even spray the pavements for weedkiller in this area . As now there are less vistors from outside the city to this area and they do not feel the need to keep the upkeep of the city around that part now . I regularly got to the other side of the city and the upkeep so much better .

The problem is compounded by seeing a mess so others think why should I bother and add to it. Would be nice to see prominent people from the city, possibly even the club too, getting involved in a cleaning up initiative. Choose an area at a time and all hands to the deck, residents from the area all involved, and helping until it's spotless. Would be nice if it was then maintained and cared for, perhaps.

Twice a year in the Village I live in there is a big "clean up" morning... loads of residents take part (including me).

A quick look at the location of videos on this youtube channel leads me to guess the guy is a student from a small middle class Gloucestershire village currently studying in the Midlands.

Depressing read about my city, but I suppose typical of many cities in the UK these days.
Litter really is a massive problem, but that's mainly down to people can't be bothered/don't want to dispose of their own rubbish. Always someone else's problem.

Tbf that's part of the problem I think. I'm not excusing people, but if the council collected them without profit there would be less fly tipping that they them have to deal with anway. A lot of households can't afford £40 so just dump it for free. I know some would regardless, but make it a tenner and I'm sure it would reduce.
