...if it did happen it would have to be an early kickoff. don't the scottish players have to be up early to deliver milk?

It was the Anglo-Scottish Cup Winners’ Cup.

David Smith made his debut for us iirc. Frank McGarvey equalised for them.

The crowd was about 4K in a cold night in December at HR and the second leg (supposed played at Easter) was quietly shelved due to convenient fixture pile-ups on each side.

It was a one off invention called the Anglo Scottish Challenge that wasn’t completed out of apathy.

It was staged due to the european ban at the time. The second leg wasnt played due to a number of varying reasons.
From memory I think we didn’t play the second leg because of a fixture pile up and an injury crisis. I remember we had virtually no fit central defenders and St Mirren agreed not to play the second leg at that time.

I was there, stood at front of the Kop near the couple of hundred St Mirren fans - it was freezing and not a great game. Would be interested in going to a 2nd leg though.
I was in the Kop too and if I remember there were a few Mansfield in with them as they're game had been called off

wouldn't mind a couple of games up there in pre-season. And completing this has a bit of a novelty factor which would be a nice change for pre-season
We did used to. I still have my programme from this game. 1984. Can't remember the result.

Remember going to see us at Morton too. 20240604_205022.jpg

Also, Tim Dalton couldn't have known on that bleak night in Brechin that he'd soon achieve global fame in the Bond movies.

Interesting that less than 3 years before lifting the FA Cup, only 4 of the players who would achieve that are in the squad.

I am surprised it was that many.

I don't remember half of the kids who were here back then. Pearce and Butterworth would both be off at the end of the season, of course and a lot of the familiar names then came in.
