You ain’t got much of a clue about football. Robins deems him good enough and I actually know the game and appreciate the qualities Eccles brings to the team

I’m not a football player and never will be good enough but that doesn’t mean all other opinions are invalid, you’d be left with a handful of people on this forum arguing amongst themselves if that was the case.

I respect your opinion, I just think we need to do better than Eccles starting every game if we want to make it to the prem. Not every player can be a Vik or a Gus but we need more of them and should be striving for them rather than hanging onto players like Eccles just because they put in a shift and they’re from Cov (not your reasoning I know but I believe that’s some of the sentiment behind a lot of fans opinions).

I’m not a football player and never will be good enough but that doesn’t mean all other opinions are invalid, you’d be left with a handful of people on this forum arguing amongst themselves if that was the case.

Agreed. This Stamenic, Sanches, Rudoni and even Browne are all players that are considered ‘box-to-box’, possibly Rudoni is the exception.

Both Sheaf and Eccles, for all of their tackling and passing, didn’t really impact the game in the box. Of those two, Sheaf is the better player and this is where my past criticisms have been misconstrued somewhat.

The analogy I’d like to put forward is this; Man City wanted to sign Declan Rice when they already had Rodri. They’re not going to play both those players at the same time and would look a better team having the likes of Silva, KDB and Gundogan (back then).

Either way, I think for once that “the time is now” when it comes to big transfers. Everything is lined up for us to have a proper crack at automatics, but the squad just needs some improvements. The keeper situation is shit, need better midfielders both on and off the bench and need a new CB, maybe even new LB as backup for Bidwell, I’m not sold on Dasilva tbh.

I can see both sides. Browne is a ready made solution . This guy is only 22 having played in the Champions League with massive potential for improvement. Our coaching staff have a great track record of player development. Browne would have little resale value , the other scenario is the potentially the opposite

We need that type of solid player though and I do think if we had to buy a player on the same level as Eccles we'd be surprised how much it would cost us. He has mixed it up with everyone he played this season though. I have been impressed.

I guess Browne is a known entity in that he's decent but at heart we are all gamblers and want the new chap to piss it and net us £40m...

100% agree, as consistent as Eccles is (and I’m not saying we should sell him) he doesn’t provide enough oomph going forward. I get that his role isn’t to provide goals but when the opportunity arises he’s not accurate enough and doesn’t create enough assists or threatening chances.

It’s mainly Sheaf’s role to mop up play from the opposition, we can’t have all our midfielders soaking up attacks, we need our midfield to create more chances for our strikers/wingers to latch onto in my view.

Having lived through the Ron Atkinson days I can't agree. We have to live within our means. Last season we made some great signings but also some poor ones. Having so many players on long contracts is expensive and not having a balanced squad which includes players experienced at this level isn't a recipe for success in my view.

I think most people would say Collins, Latibeaudiere and Dasilva weren't a success and many argue Kitching and Thomas too, although I wouldn't. They are all on four year contracts. Fatso would even argue Wright.

I am hardly negative, and indeed challenge negative remarks about players. I just making a point that we need a balanced squad.

I agree but that’s the sort of player we need, someone that can get us into the prem, we shouldn’t be satisfied with a midfielder that’s not good enough for the prem. We’ve scouted players like Van Ewijk and Sakamoto who are capable of being in the prem, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be looking for more of that quality in midfield.

I think it’s working though, the club’s in the best state it’s been for decades and the punts from European leagues have worked so far. I’d rather risk it and go for Stamenic than Browne.

3 cheap players who will end up being squad players, or shifted on, its hardly the end of the world. The investments we've made have put us in the most stable position we've been in my lifetime, if we need money we probably have 4 players we could sell for upwards of £10 million tomorrow and several more we could sell for a good few million too. I wouldn't be against a couple of experienced heads at all, in fact I'm all for Browne, but we are doing what we need to do to move forward.

But if you want an effective team rather than just potential money you need experience too. That's not being negative. The role Kelly, Godden, McFadzean and others have played in recent years goes beyond just their individual output in the pitch. We have lost that.

Sheaf is experienced. O'Hare is an experienced Championship player too if we are able to keep him, which I hope we pull a rabbit out the hat and do.
Could argue Eccles is experienced too.

Pretty sure we won't see any more of O'Hare although I hope I am wrong. Yes Sheaf and Eccles have some experience but not like Kelly and Fads and they don't carry that leadership role. I think part if our problem second half of the season was the lack of leaders.

I'd go along with that. Too much experience (by this I'm guessing people are talking about older players) usually equals a load of slightly over the hill Championship players draining wages. 1 or 2 very carefully selected ones at most.
Ultimately I just think having better players than the opposition counts for more.

I have always supported the kid and always will ( apart from them (****in corners).
Cost us nothing and has improved every season.
As we have got better, so has he.
Adi rates him one of the best midfield players in the division, that’s good enough for me.
