2024/25 League 1 Champs?

The topic of guessing what the club has to spend is interesting (and refereshing given our previous dire circumstances), but only the club know for sure and speculation, that we are linked to some exciting talent serves to whet the appetite regardless.

To add to the topic of finances though, I don't think anyone has mentioned it seems highly likely at some point soon that we'll be recipients of the sell on clause in the Gyokeres deal. A sum Doug may choose to bank on and justify funding a punt at the prem next season. We should rightly be excited at the possibilites just now!

I still think everyone is getting excited by the Gyokeres sell on like it’s going to make us super rich, but in reality a couple of million pounds isn’t going to make much of a difference to us, particularly as I understand we also pay Brighton some if he’s sold too….

we’ll be left with possibly £2M at most.

If he goes for his release fee we'd get around £8m even after paying Brighton (based on 15% of anything over the £20m we received and giving Brighton 20% of that).

Any news on when he’s expected to sign and be announced officially?

Are we still waiting on Robins to get back so they can have the generic handshake and picture?

It was literally publically stated by Sporting his release clause is €100 million

That's around £86 million and we get 15% sell on of any profit

So £66 million profit for Sporting means we will get £9.9 million when he moves. Brighton have been paid their sell on in the original transfer to Sporting

In short, if/when Vik moves we are in line for another 10 million quid, that's massive.

Hamer, although not publicised I have on good authority that he has a 10% sell on clause in general. So if he goes this summer to a prem team for the reported £20million we should have another couple of million added to the warchest

Not quite right re the Brighton part. They get a percentage of what we get. Just as we did with Maddison

That 15% is reduced to 10% as he’s met a lot of objectives

But we would have got bonuses for those I believe. Goals, league win etc, Not sure if they have been paid? Not sure what they were but I'd imagine they weren't peanuts. I reckon it would work out somewhere close to equal

Quite possibly. Suspect some of the money has come already hence why we’re shopping for the likes of Marko.

Yeah I think it was €1m for a goal target and no doubt another few mil for other bonuses so that will be added to our summer budget.

I am quite surprised we are spending over £4m on a CM this early in the window so maybe that is where a lot of the money has come from.

Bonuses were €4m total. He scored 43 and they won the league, surely that would’ve triggered most of them.

the sell on percentage is only 5% as he’s hit all other targets - £60M profit, £3M sell on and we pay 10% (I believe, it might be more) to Brighton, so we stand to make £2.5M

decent but nothing to get over-excited about

Hitting the targets drops it to 10% not 5%. Also, if we've hit all the targets that means we've made another £4m anyway

…that’s why it drops to 5% - the wording in Portuguese says it drops by up to 10%, which (although badly worded) means it goes from 15 to as low as 5

It definitely doesn’t drop to 10%

anyway, not arguing about it, and probably won’t find out even if / when it happens

Definitely doesn't drop to 10% based on what?

Unless you were involved in the negotiation then that's just your interpretation.

Again, unless we sell an asset (Sheaf mainly) where else will this money come from? I cannot see Doug being willing or perhaps able to bankroll such expenditure.

Don’t mean to be cynical, here, but I think a dose of reality is needed, where these rumours are concerned.

We can’t be the only club who have scouted these players, and the presence of Stamenic and his teammate Glazer in London doesn’t exactly fill me with optimism in our apparent interest in the former.

We’ve blown all the Vik and Gus money. There is no more from player sales to reinvest into the team and operating costs/wages etc.

I firmly believe that if we do sign Stamenic, or any other player, expect to see Sheaf gone before or soon after it’s announced.
I can't speak for King, but if I were him I'd be thinking that the FA Cup run has given us a lot of exposure and maybe there is the possibility of some players being willing to join that ordinarily wouldn't. If we don't have as good a run next year that chance might go, so we have to strike while the iron's hot.

While I don't think he's the type of owner to just loan the club huge sums, he may well look at it that if we sign them and can go up then the fee is not a problem. If we don't we have players like Sheaf, Simms, Wright and Ewijk who should be saleable for quite a price in Jan/next summer if it doesn't work out. There is risk with that due to injury or loss of form etc. but we'd have to have a catastrophic season for all of them to lose that much of their value. Then there is the decent potential of sell-ons for Gus and/or Vik.

Couldn’t agree more, it seems obvious to me that this season is one of the best chances we’ll ever have of getting into the prem. We have a new, energetic fully “gelled” team and one that has put itself on the map after basically beating Man U in a FA cup semi-final.

Here we all are debating over £1.3 mil this and £3.5 mil that, when if we make it into the prem it’ll look like absolute peanuts. I know it’s all ifs and buts, however we need to have a bit of conviction between ourselves, if we ever want to get out of the championship we need to take a few gambles and invest in the club, and I assume King knows that. It’s a golden opportunity, to have so much positivity and have such beatable relegated teams in the championship. Genuinely don’t think there’s a better time than now for Doug to splash whatever cash he has.
