Yes would have been a great signing, we'll have a contingency plan, can see us using the money for Sanches or Kyprianou now.

Robins has been trying to replace him for 18 months and always goes back to Bidwell, there’s a reason why, you know what you’re going to get.

We need a better all round left back than jay da Silva, to complement the defensive acumen of Bidwell

I think this is exactly why I keep banging on about European players. We tried to replace Bidwell with a cheap option from another championship rival and it didn’t work out. We upgraded our RB/RWB spot with a European signing who we spent a fair chunk on and he’s now one of the best players in the squad.

You usually get what you pay for and I think trying to improve Bidwell on the cheap makes it seem like he’s actually very good and irreplaceable, when really I think we just haven’t spent enough money on the LB position and looked further afield.

(If we could just somehow afford and convince Busanello to join us we’d have it sorted 😂)

We can do better. Hope we've found a LB option abroad perhaps (Then ideally would move JDS on - I know that's v v unlikely)
I think McCallum on a free would be an excellent signing. It's not sustainable to spent multi millions on foreign players for every position.

There is a reason why Bidwell has been to three play off finals with Brentford, Swansea and Cov. Add in a semi-final in the FA Cup that should have been a final IMHO.
JDS was brought in to compete with Bidwell.
A rather dodgy rumour Bidwell was moving to Birmingham that apparently never got past first base and MR is always trying to replace him?
MR described Bidwell as a Rolls Royce and I agree with him. A lot of fans say we need more experience at the back but want to get rid of our most experienced defender.
That said, he has a year left on his contract and is not getting any younger. Everyone has their price and a top offer may be accepted.

jds and a newbie doesn't fill me with confidence.
and if we replace bidders with experience then we may as well hold onto him.

i just wouldn't get rid of him. he's solid, and how many of our defenders earn that tag atm?

Very fair points, although I’m not sure I’d describe him as a Rolls Royce like Robins has, more of a Land Rover Defender than anything 😂

I do think we need to be looking forward rather than at the present though, if a younger and quicker talent can be brought in now, then they can have a season gelling with the squad whilst Bidwell is still here.

Bidwell is a top pro and will fight for his spot come pre season. But the club obviously see its an area they can improve and get younger. Bidwell is in the last year of his contract and probably wants a better deal. While the club may think it adds no value money wise and Robins might think he can get better by reinvest ing the wages .

Sentiment goes out the window although i see the value in the player and would be happy to see him stay. The staff will ultimately decide his future at the club.

Every club misses out on players …. Man City wanted Declan Rice last summer, Chelsea have just pipped Newcastle to Tosin, etc etc .

No need to panic.

Let’s be honest even if we only kept the current squad and didn’t sign a single player we would still have a competitive starting team. Nothing on the bench, granted, but you get my point.

We are in a good place and it will only get better …

@Saddlebrains maybe browne sn't as off as you thought now then

I would love us to sign Browne, as I think he is just the sort of player we need.

Not sure it's going to happen though. It will be difficult for us to compete with the likes of Sheffield United on wages.

They can't make offers until their takeover goes through.

I know but the transfer window has barely opened and Browne reputedly has a very decent offer on the table from PNE, so he can afford to wait. There are also reports that we are struggling to match that offer because of our wage structure.

I would love us to sign him but I just have a feeling that it isn't going to happen. I hope I'm wrong.

Why can’t they ?

The club will have a budget for this summers window that will have been part of what any new owner has dilligenced.

The new owners might alter that budget but fundamentally the new owners will want Sheff Utd to have a productive summer to maximise their chances of returning to the Premier League at the earliest opportunity.

There was an article I read that until it happens they can't make offers near what these players want as the current owner won't authorise them

He can't wait too long. He is unemployed in 12 days time

Hopefully the club move swiftly on from the Stamenic debacle, probably already have, just hoping to see some signings this week and next, considering MR said he wanted them in ready for pre season. Have a feeling there's some done in the background we don't know about.

Maybe so but he wont be getting any wages while he decides

I'm sure I read that clubs pay former players an additional months salary if they haven't found a new club. If that's true, he'll be paid for the month of July as well.

Lots of people moaning about a lack of experience but happy to see Bidwell moved on doesn't make sense?
