Do you want to discuss boring politics? (219 Viewers)

No, I said if you claim no party is special enough for your totally unique and also completely sensible beliefs, you’re a coward. Because you want to sit and snipe at everyone else.

It’s more likely if no party comes close to representing you that it’s because you have completely unworkable beliefs than you are some ultra pure genius who sees through the NPCs.

I don't believe the main two parties represent me, or what's best for the country. My view is that politics in the UK is a mess and both of them have made massive contributions to that over several decades. It's not about being unique, it's about getting even the basics right - which neither seem capable of doing.

As a result of this I'm not going to vote for either of them. I don't trust them. I would argue someone that feel at a loss with them, but still votes for them is a more suitable candidate for the coward title than I am. Perhaps that's you just projecting given the rattled nature of these posts?

Sorry, do I have an obligation to tell you who I'm voting for?

I genuinely think it might be best for you to log off this forum for a bit and take a break. You, like some others, are becoming obsessed and I don't think refreshing this thread every 30 seconds is doing you any good.

Yeah yeah triggered blah blah, you come on slating other people’s voting choices but are too scared to state your own. I repeat: coward.

I’m just pointing out it’s the approach that will win the election but what will lead to nothing actually changing for the better.
You seriously think under Starmer nothing will be better than the last 14 years? I am no big fan but there will at least be some competence. You think he's the same as Liz Truss or Johnson? This 'they're all the same line is lazy.

Ahahahahaha. Fucking classic. Even Reform accept they won’t actually cut immigration. They’ll allow health and social care staff, so basically most of the existing immigrants.

Any of you accepting you’re being taken for a ride yet?

Can't remember who the interviewer was but he put farage under a bit of pressure for once and he blurted out the same.
No way they'll stand up to any sustained scrutiny.

Yeah, you are triggered, and coming across very badly. Hence why I've said I think you need a break. I don't think you know the meaning of the word coward either, or at least have enough self-awareness to see where it applies.

Like I said, I don't feel any of them really represent me. I also don't see how anyone can seriously trust any of them. That's not 'cowardly' to point out. It's an uncomfortable truth that many people such as yourself cannot cope with. You have already been pretty clear that no option other than the one you are voting for is the correct one, and as you are refreshing this thread every 30 seconds, with your blood pressure no doubt through the roof - I can't see any point in trying to hold a debate with you.

Let me guess, you think if you hound me enough, or try and sneer arrogantly enough - that I will see the error of my ways, and vote the same way as you? We've seen this one before...

The edgemeister has entered the chat.

You going for Reform, Greens, or the classic “none of them” like a true coward?

How would not voting be cowardly?

We’re headed for a low voter turnout for a reason, people are dissatisfied with all the options on offer and will either begrudgingly vote for the ‘least worst’ option or stay at home.

I will vote, but not entirely enthusiastic about voting for anyone.

He’s changed political beliefs to further his own career based on what he thinks people want to hear rather than what he believes in. The country has also lurched even more to the right and I expect it will do again in 5 years time and Labour will end up out of office.

There’s nothing transformative in the Labour manifesto and considering how ‘bad’ the last 14 years have been, you’d think a party of change would have more to say on what they’d change.

The reality is that the economic climate is such that a lot of governments will be hemmed in by financial markets. France apparently is on the verge of their very own ‘Truss moment’ of the National Rally win power based on their spending plans. Therefore, a lot of people are probably going to feel let down with their next government.

I’ll take the man who has worked his entire life in public service over Nige the grifter on this measure personally. But sure. Everyone’s the same.
Who are you talking about? Starmer hasn’t spent his entire working life in public service. He was a barrister earning a fortune before becoming DPP. It was a good job his toolmaker father lived in Reigate Grammar School catchment area.

I was reminded recently that Starmer represented 2 green piece activists pro bono in what was apparently known as the longest libel case in British history (some 10 years) against McDonalds. Quite a famous case known as McLibel.

Sorry but if you think someone who would do that is anything like pretty much any politician on the right I think you’re deluded. Most politicians on the right would have been cheering on the corporation against the woke lefties, while giving them tax breaks funded by the plebs.

Amusing the Tories state Labour wanting 16/17 year olds to vote is "vote rigging". This from the party who introduced photo ID to counteract election fraud. A problem that never existed. A policy that penalises the young, not the old, **their** core vote.

If you're old enough to leave school, work, and pay tax, or join the armed forces and serve the country, then surely you're entitled to a vote.

The fact that it doesn't serve the Tories well is just a bonus, regardless of that, it seems only fair to me.

Votes for 16/17 year olds is a stupid policy whoever ‘benefits’. We don’t even trust them to drink, smoke or get a mortgage… 😂

I agree with 2nd part of that. I sense our Country is becoming more right wing, selfish, bitter and intolerant and social media fuelling it.
A bit of sensible boring politician with a vision is what we need as Tory infighting has been harming the country for 15 years and will take years to settle down until hard right are kicked out. Farage is ultimately desperate to be the Conservative & Unionist Party leader.
Hopefully KS is man to deliver hope to those in poverty/out of work/kids/families and elderly.
May, Boris, Truss, Rishi and Farage have been an utter disaster.
If not, one day Id love to test a coalition of Greens and Lib Dims with good leader in place.

Competently doing austerity, cannot wait mate

Austerity effectively ended in 2017, after COVID and the energy crisis, government spending has gone up and debt to GDP rising too.

Now interest rates are on the up (and kept artificially lower by QE), we’re teetering on a debt crisis if financial markets don’t like whatever the government of the day is doing.

Good luck to any reformist government!

I keep asking what evidence there is that Labour will be competent. Look at Wales.

Of course, no one has provided any evidence - because there is none.

When Greenpeace activists come to see Starmer in 2024….

How can there be any evidence when they haven't been in power for 14 years?

There's plenty of good policy from their previous time in office though.
