But as someone else said it looked like the ref asked him to put his flag up? So did the ref overrule the linesman so that they could put it to VAR? Fucking joke
VAR review every goal regardless so no conspiracy of "putting it to VAR", they have to give what they think is the correct decision on the field.

Ref would have thought he was impacting the keeper which lino obviously can't tell, clarified it with him & that he was in an offside position & came to (probably) the right decision.
Why it took so long for the VAR to confirm that was just ridiculous though.

Not impressed by France at all, have been very average in both their games considering their squad.
Agreed, but to be consistent with my thoughts on England… it’s the group games and the only important thing is getting out of the group.

Netherlands winning the group would be (potentially) good for us if we get our act together.

If Maignan had dived and come near Dumfries I’d have agreed with ruling it out but Maignan was never anywhere near, and was never reacting fast enough to stop that(or reaching it anyway). It’s a perversion of the offside rule, no advantage was gained.

At the moment it feels like the excuses are being put in for an inevitable defeat on Tuesday.
Well yeah, you say that, but if the sun is in several players' eyes as a Slovenian attacker skips past 6 of them to slot in a goal from a tight angle, you can hardly blame the players can you.

The match commentators suggested that VAR were trying their damndest to rule out the Dutch goal and I’m inclined to agree.
Its a sham of a system that can be abused and manipulated.

I don’t know if it was just a stupid gamble hoping he’d be fit in time. Suppose an option was Tyrick Mitchell from Palace. At least there’d have been a dynamic with him and Guehi.

‘Dynamic’ - something we’re completely lacking all over.

It’s absolute ‘rocks in your head’ material. With the best will in the world, we didn’t need to take all of Dunk/Konsa/Gomez. It’d take a bloody disaster for any/all of them to have ended up on the pitch. The idea that Konsa gave us RB cover when you had Walker, TAA, Trippier already in the squad is bonkers. I kind of get not taking Chilwell - his season has been plagued by injury. But take someone! I know Branthwaite isn’t a LB but at least he’s left footed, same way as Ake/Gvardiol aren’t left backs but play there for Man City.

Manager coming out against the players is never a good sign.

In Southgate’s previous tournaments something we’ve never lacked is team spirit. Looks like this has finally gone here.

Didn't he see them train before hand? It's weird as you would have thought he would see then their fitness levels.

If we haven't got enough problems already. Trippier on the left causes such an imbalance.

We really should have taken a fit left back.
Yep, that's down to Southgate.
We could be out of the competition before Shaw is fit, and yet we leave out the 2 players with the ability to unlock defences.
Madness.

Not fit enough ?! Did they all have a complete binge out between the end of the season and the beginning of this……maybe they’ve all been on the Wayne Rooney diet 😬

“the two players with the ability to unlock defences” because, of course, Foden, Palmer, Eze are completely incapable. If you think that’s the issue we’re facing then you’re miles off.

Let's be honest we've not been very good since 2022 .. and leading upto this tournament we drew with Macedonia and Belgium (not as good as they were ) lost to a second string Brazil, beat Bosnia but were dire and lost to Iceland

The only games we've won since 2022 that are remotely worth mentioning are the 2 wins against Italy in qualifying

We've won 15 drew 8 lost 6 in the last 2 years , and of those 15 , 5 were friendlies against shite and the others were euro qualifying against all shite but 1 team .

In Qatar we beat Wales, Iran and Senegal

We also got relegated from our nations league group without winning a game including a 4-0 loss to Hungary
