This just came up on my X feed. Still think Armstrong was far too concerned with getting in front of player rather than just getting shot off. He’ll be kicking himself as

Better for the position but yeah, not exciting. A far cry from world class.

I've really not seen Gallagher play before, but when he has come on these two games, he has been shite. Is this the best we have in "the most exciting league in the world"?

At this point I feel like, even though it goes against all wisdom that ‘put your best players on and hope it works’ never works, I would just play 4141 and put our best players on and hope it works.

That to me, the more I look at it, is a case of Armstrong wrestling the defender to the floor.

Yeah, agree that he’s better but in both matches he’s come on we still haven’t really regained control of the game. Still think southgate needs to make another change or two. Most of his new, exciting ‘breath of fresh air’ squad additions Palmer, Gordon, Mainoo and Wharton haven’t even played a minute yet !

Anyway, let’s hope some system tweaks means it knits together better than it has so far.

Let's hope.

What worries me about Gallagher is (he's okay at club level) that his passing isn't that great and and he does have the tendency to give the ball away quite cheaply.

I would much rather have Mainoo in there.

Yeah, I’d gamble on Wharton myself but for the same reasons, no issue if he gave Mainoo a try though. We’ve just not retained possession well enough

Mixed feelings on the Scots for me. On the one hand a lot of time for people who love their football, at the same time, years living up there with them roaring on whoever was playing England at any sport, false claims of an obsession with 1966 etc etc mean my sympathy is limited. That and the not particularly pleasant part of being an Englishman up there for the indyref.

I never want them to win and I live up here and was told today that I should support Scotland as I live here so I asked if I should have supported Belgium when I lived there, yet it is perfectly acceptable for them to want England to lose. I have been told a few times to get back to my own country both during and since the indyref. The 1966 obsession is in my experience always brought up by them and it isn't right how partisan our commentators are but perfectly OK for their's.

Absolutely. Gallagher brings exceptional energy which we've undoubtedly lacked but is not someone who will control possession. If we are to press high & intensely from the off then fine but that needs the whole team to do that & we've not looked to even attempt it thus far.

I'm in total agreement with you & @CCFCSteve we need to control the ball better & despite being so inexperienced, Wharton is the best we have at that.

What we then need is pace, width & someone prepared to run behind. With the exception of Saka, that's only really Gordon from this squad so, once again, forget about who our best players are & pick the most balanced team.

Let's not worry about getting the best from Foden or TAA if it means unbalancing the whole team. Leave them out & get the best out of Kane, Bellingham, Trippier & Rice instead.

Similar for me and the Welsh. It changes you from wanting other home nations to do well, to wanting them knocked out ASAP!

Sometimes I loved it. Other times they were indeed appalling to watch! Depended as much on their opposition and how they set up whether you'd drift off over 97 passes or not.

It happens in the Netherlands literally every week. They occasionally do a tannoy announcement to tell people to stop, but the only time I actually saw the game stopped was when someone threw a firebomb which almost hit the goalkeeper.
