Against the bus parking teams you need all the more to play at higher tempo rather than patiently waiting for them to get fully set in front of you.

The few times we saw some one touch passing yesterday it opened them up.

Agree. It’s very strange. These are top quality technical players as well. As I say, mainoo, palmer (and even Gordon a couple of times) stood out by doing that

Ps I’ve always been quite supportive of Southgate but I’m livid with his management of Bellingham. The poor lads getting the flack after running himself into the ground in the first game and yet Southgate’s left him on last two games, out of position, when he’s looked out on his feet and there’s fresh legs on the bench.

So - it's more than likely the Dutch in the next round. They will attack us - more than we have been so far. We will be up against Virgil van D in defence for them. If GS rings the changes, we should have a chance, but.... Not sure what the pitch will be like on Sunday, but hope it's a lot better than the last two we've 'attempted to have' played on.

Look

We may well go on and storm the tournament , and some people may hate the fact that fans talk this way about how the team are playing etc etc ...

Fact is up until this point we've been very poor , nobody can argue against that

Hopefully we get better and thankfully we are on the better side of the draw

Will they attack us? Koeman can be a bit Southgate like at times

More that they have some players capable of attacking us than up to date. As you say, he may be a bit Southgate like, but maybe they haven't yet been as indoctrinated into negativity like ours seem to have been. Release the hounds !!

Angry at Southgate most of all but also incredibly pissed off at the players. You can’t blame the manager solely for how bad some of them have been. Even more pissed off by how little responsibility they’re taking for the performance and the way they’re acting like we should be happy with how they’ve played.

There was NO tempo, NO movement off the ball, and VERY little quality in any of the passing, except that ball through the middle (was it Mainoo) towards the end.
There is no system - they are a bunch of disparate (though individually very good) players who have to move all over the pitch trying to find a way of getting someone to put a decent ball into them.

They said on the radio this morning that they are still struggling to find someone to partner Rice. Well, is that the problem? Trying to build a team around him is maybe a fool's errand!
Rice looked fine with Mainoo next to him.

Mainoo looked competent, unlike TTA and Gallagher (did he touch the ball in the first half?

There needs to be 2-3 changes to that starting line up IMO.

Not sure how you can comment on his attitude?

Although I would drop him next game in all honesty and play Palmer
He spent most of last night throwing his arms in the air, getting in team-mates way and trying back heels/flicks and losing the ball. Obviously just going off what is seen in the pitch but it was just petulant from him last night.

Not sure I've ever seen Gallagher have a decent game for England? Sure he must have done!

Was at the game yesterday and well, it wasn’t great.

That midfield area was a real problem area now and before the tournament. Mainoo not Wharton are players that will give us the ‘control’ we need in games.

There’s a lot of finger pointing at the manager, but there was far too many poor individual performances and errors.

We won the group and you move on from it now and the nature of the matches will change now we’re on the KO rounds. The Netherlands (or whomever) won’t be putting 10 players behind the ball to play for a draw.

Was the reason to get minutes in his legs for the KO rounds. He really played 90m the weeks leading up to the camp, same with Kane too.

Bellingham was awful last night and if he’s unfit, I’d start Foden 10, drop Bellingham and start Palmer for Saka. At least last nights performance showed that Bellingham at the ‘8’ and Foden at the ‘10’ isn’t the answer for this team.

Palmer should have played before last night he’s the in form guy
Not sure what’s up with Kane he doesn’t look fit and also Bellingham in the last couple of games
Guehi has done well but has a mistake in him
Trippier is not a left or left wing back
Rice isn’t the same player for arsenal and England - I suppose who is
Groups are for getting out of we have finished top unlike a few others of the normally good teams
Let’s see if we can step it up in the knockouts
We’re gonna have to

I guess if you want to try and put a positive spin on it, you could say at least we're consistent.

That's not much use when we're consistently crap, mind you...

Yes unfortunately , got caught up in the hype and spoke too soon

Like to add that from January after this post his form dropped dramatically , he's definitely got alot to work on But he's young

But yes talk of an all timer was pretty stupid

I have no qualms with the squad selection going into the tournament, the only real ‘debate’ was the midfield i.e. should Trent play there or Bellingham/Foden. Now that’s been ‘discredited’ people don’t know what to do. It irritates me when the pundits then turnaround and call more or less the same lineups ‘conservative’ that they themselves more or less picked before the tournament.

Players like Palmer, Mainoo and Wharton have little international experience and have only broken onto the scene. The latter two will be future starters if they continue at the trajectory they’re on, but for people like Scholes to compare Kobbie to Kroos and Modric is just setting him up to fail. In Ten Haag’s words, we bring these players up just to shoot them down. As for Palmer, agree he should start the next game but he’s missed a lot of England games this season so understand why he’s been eased into it.

As for Trippier, again I agree, it’s well and good pointing out he’s not a LB but the alternatives are Chilwell and Shaw - both players either injured or just returned after playing little football this season. When pundits like Ian Wright suggest Saka plays LB, you know these people just haven’t got a clue what they’d do themselves.

We won the group and despite the negativity around the team, it’s not changed the outcome had we won all the games comfortably.

I don’t think you were wrong, it’s not just hype. He’s a great player and still only 20. To do what he’s done at his age is special. He’s not a machine though and I think has looked leggy/knackered last two games

Won us three points almost single handedly against Serbia (well, with Guehi) though. Got winner and can’t recall many other good performances. V poor yesterday and should’ve been off at half time. I’d said to a couple of mates before the game I’d have been tempted to have him on bench and give him a break to be fresh and up for knock outs…instead Southgate plays him for full 90 🤦‍♂️

Part of the issue. He’s played around 100 games as a 19/20 year old in the last 2 years. He’ll be burnt out by 28.
Is indeed the danger. Assuming he keeps going, his peak tournaments are still four, six, eight years away.

Exactly. Plus this season for the biggest club in the world and only finished at the start of June, had a week off and straight into camp. Im also worried about burn out, especially after starting men’s football at 16
