Selfishly I hope Sargent starts ahead of Wright for the US.

Haji was brought in as a LW for this tournament, not as a striker (unless in case of emergency). Balogun, Sargent, and Pepi are the three strikers.

Haji was either the last or second to last add on the roster. He will serve as an attacking option LW substitute for Pulisic. Which means, don't expect to see Haji play much at all. Pulisic is going to go the full 90 pretty much every match this tournament unless injured, suspended, or have a lead and can buy him some rest. Just way too important for this side for him not to be out there.

That being said, there is still a chance you see Haji on the field with Puli if US chasing a game super late and just pumping balls into the box or Berhalter needs to just throw as many attackers on the field and flips Puli over to the right side like they did against Jamaica in Nations League semifinal.

Weah doesn't seem to offer anything more than Haji does. And Haji was only selected for the squad as Sargent is injured. Which suggests he was picked as a striker with LW options.

But as he's hardly used, I'm not sure why Berhalter even selects Haji unless it's purely to appease fan favour.

--------------

As for our Reggae Boys, Lati is regularly played as middle CB in a flat back 5. He's not a CB (doesn't have the presence, physique or aggressiveness), being a far more effective holding DM protecting the defence.

And any knockers of Palmer need to watch him in these international games. He's not played as CAM as we would expect. He's played as more of a box to box DM, a position he looks totally out of place for.

Against Mexico, it seemed that Jamaica effectively played a rigid 5-4-1 when out of possession, with sporadic attacks as balls were played up to Shamar or Antonio in the hope they could hold the ball up long enough. As it turned out, the ball was given over and Mexico counterattacked through the gaps created by Jamaica rushing forward.

Nothing to do with fan favor. Since he doesn't play in one of the Big 5 leagues, there isn't any sort of fan clamoring for his inclusion.

Weah has been Berhalter's pegged in RW starter forever. They have always liked his verticality as well has his ability to track back and defend which was much more important in past tournaments when Sergino Dest was playing RB. Haji isn't going to play on the RW. While Berhalter could flip Pulisic over to the RW (where he plays for Milan), Berhalter has always preferred him to play on the left with an inability to cut in on his stronger right foot. We saw the benefit of that last night with Puli's right footed curler to open the scoring.

Regardless of whether you believe Haji is there as a LW or ST (it is both, we just disagree on the degree of one vis-a-vis the other), if he plays this tournament, its more likely it comes on the LW, like we saw in Nations League.

Is it?

They made 73 championship appearances between them last season. It's not like they're peripheral players like Kelly/Godden/Allen
Well what was all that about Palmer wanting a new improved contract, and being told no.
And if he has a year left, why are we not looking to extend ?
We don’t seem that keen to hang on to him.

Palmer officially tallied with an Own Goal. But to put any fault on Palmer would be a huge mistake. Closed down a cross from outside the box. It deflected off him and took a wicked path that saw it sail to the corner of the goal.

Ecuador has been dominant so far. Goal was coming, even if it came through pure luck.

So that's Jamaica out then as expected. Kasey and Lats will join up to pre season midway through week 2 evidently

Haji, if as expected USA go out in the next round, will be back week beginning 22nd July

Kasey was good last night helped set up the goal too. Lati started centre half and was giving the ball away cheaply moved into midfield and was better however taken off after his booking.

Well after a senseless red card, USA is in serious jeopardy of failing to get out of the group.

Haji may be back sooner than anticipated.

That forward that took a shot Balugan I think on the left should have squared it,and that sending off at the end, chaos from the other side, I don't think extra time took account of it,two yellow card fouls as well could and should have red as there's no jeopardy in it for them oh well next!

Haji needs to pack his bag and storm out of this Mickey Mouse set-up. Best player on the roster and getting no pitch time.

He is nowhere near as good as Pulisic and didn't have the most convincing year at the #9 position as opposed to out wide.

Doesn't Bode Well, playing Hadji in a 3 then, EMC, Hadji and Simms.

Will Simms be the #9 with Hadji #11 with EMC coming on as a substitute. Probably 🧐

Honestly, I think we see a mix of Haji at the LW and ST this year. Last year, Robins unlocked the best version of Haji out on the LW. But they paid good money for him to play ST and perhaps be another Gyokeres type. Really need to find a way to get that same production from Haji when he is playing centrally.

Luckily, not as big of an issue given how much Simms came along down the stretch last season. You really have to feel like Simms could make a massive leap this year and blossom into a 20m+ level player.
