Not sure tbh , but we've actively gone out and purchased EMC , Eccles is for me a player we should be looking to upgrade on to progress as a team

We have torp too
Eccles is consistently among the highest performers in his position if you look at the stats though .
It's strange how some ,myself included , think he's a solid top end championship defensive midfielder and others rate him as a league one player .

In all honesty we only need 1 Full back, 1 Midfielder and 1 Striker and we have a relaly good squad with depth.
Those 3 and a keeper and we're laughing. If all of good quality I think we can make a go for top 2 tbh.

I think we need a hamer type player next to Sheaf that will get us up the pitch and work box to box

Eccles is a bit too similar to how Sheaf plays to do that job , both are better sat in breaking up play

No I agree we haven't replaced Hamer properly maybe we won't now we play a back four instead of a five ?

Again I think having 4 million pound bench players isnt practical

I know what you mean, how it seems wasteful but I do disagree with you there. I personally think it shows that we’re developing as a team, the fact we can afford to have £4 mil sat on the bench ready to impact the game when needs be is a great asset to the squad as a whole. I can only assume that the alternative is we have a shit bench and have no effect on a game when we’re 2-0 down.

If Eccles played for another Championship team and we were offered the chance to sign him for our CM, 99% of the people would be excited beyond belief. Bear in mind he’s also 24, got some good experience and has played nearly 100 Championship games too.

The fact he’s an academy graduate, not a new toy and a name we’ve heard for years then some people can’t seem to get on board. Perhaps we rename him Ecclesinho and pretend he’s from São Paulo.

Oh I see, so you just mean we should start him and bench someone else? That’s fair, I don’t mind that tbh, who would you bench for EMC then? Not having a go, just interested.

I agree, I like Eccles. But there's a reason we went after Stamenic.

However good Eccles is he isn't a progressive Hamer style player. We miss this and it's clearly a target to be rectified..

I think we will get another CM in and we will see Allen go, possibly on loan

Well I hadn't taken into consideration sakamoto will need to be eased back in so it's likely he may start on the right

But EMC is everything we've needed as a direct attacking option for years

I think Dausch and they way he performs in preseason could dictate Allen's future . I get the impression big things are expected of him

Exactly my thoughts, I know I’m seen as an Eccles-basher but I don’t think he’s awful, I think he’s a great player to have in the squad. Even if I was Doug I wouldn’t sell him, good all-round player, I just wonder if the midfield can be improved upon by changing it up. A Torp/Sheaf partnership could be interesting?

At the very least a 1-2 game experiment (against weaker opposition) to see what works and what doesn’t work is fair enough I think.

The worst thing about this is you’ve just reminded me about Stamenic after I somehow had managed to forget him, the good looking, Kiwi shagging, greasy haired little fuckwit.

That 11 for me. So much more depth on the bench than the last 2 seasons already, full 9 without Tavares or any academy prospects.
Intrigued to know where Rodrigues fits in this year or if he's destined for development for a year or two.
