Obikwu (2 Viewers)

Could he possibly save us a fee as back up striker? I know he's raw, but I liked him preseason last year, scored against PV the other day and with the group in Spain. Lots of improvement to come at only 20. Tavares 3rd striker, Obikwu 4th. Has anyone seen lots of him and more informed than me to say if he's ready?

I always liked the look of him in the U21s too in 22/23. He had some real standout performances.

Looks to have had a decent loan spell away and got some minutes. Looks pretty sharp in the clips from Unseen, but I would imagine it's more beneficial having another loan move and playing weekly rather than being 4th choice here at the min.

I’m not sure if he’s ready for that yet. Had an ok loan last season. Does look like he’s got potential though.

Peterborough have said they would never loan in a striker.

Needs a loan for sure to compliment his grimsby spell. But no doubt he's coming on. Looks our best finisher in the training videos

He needs a loan spell, likely Lg1. He did ok at Grimsby, nothing amazing. Banging goals in training v live match very different, so people shouldn't get carried away!

He and Tavares can't be back up to Simms - we need a new striker, younger, rough round edges is fine, but need new striker, ideally with some top end pace still.

Maybe a punt on Tyrese Campbell if they think they can unlock the potential or im sure our scouting team having some other gems.

He looks like he has great potential for the future and he’s a big old beast of a player however if we are meant to be challenging at the top of the league this year we need a ready made back up or rotation option.

It’s a long old season and very possible either one or both of Haji and Simms get injured at some point and he isn’t a top end Champ player yet.

I think Tavares will go out on loan with Obikwu acting as the 4th choice at least for the first half of the season.

Third striker behind Simms and another sure, direct understudy to Simms is asking too much I think. Looks an exciting talent though. Hope he gets a decent loan and starts scoring in men’s football.

if fabio and Obikwu go out on loan, then i imagine Dausch is the backup option too

Could be very good, about time we had someone coming through.

According to Wiki, he only got 3 goals in 16 games at Grimsby?

That doesnt seem right.

It’d be better for him and Tavares to go out on loan.

We desperately need to bring in at least one more striker if we’re to get promoted.
I'd far rather we spent any money we have elsewhere on the squad preferably on someone who will start games. Realistically we aren't going to find anyone to play ahead of Simms and Wright.

Tavares, Obikwu and Dausch are interesting options to have on the bench and we have to provide opportunities for youth players like the latter two.

I still don’t understand why everyone is saying Tavares out on loan. His contract expires at the end of next year so surely you either sell him for some amount of money or use him in the first team? Letting him go on loan just means we are losing him for a free and doesn’t do anything whatsoever to developing him as a Coventry player.

For some reason certain posters took against him before he'd even played for us. As a result they have constantly wanted him out despite his amazing scoring record based on minutes played and evidence like the Cup Semi Final when he looked every bit the part against Manchester United.

I think we'd be better off sending Obikwu and Dausch on loan and having Tavares as the back up striker that gets 5 or 10 mins off the bench.

We saw what he did against Utd, there's clearly something there and he's presumably a better player right now than Obikwu or Dausch so let them go on loan to develop.

That’s all well and good until injuries play a part and we’re actually trying to get promoted. He’d do as 4th choice though for a season.

Was pretty good towards the end of the season. Am i completely sold on him? No... but imo he's worth keeping around and if we can improve him as we have shown we can do with many others, he may save us a few quid.

That's what I mean, he'll do as the striker that gets a few minutes here and there.

My point was that there seems little sense in having Dausch or Obikwu play that role, they may as well go and get game time on loan to develop.

I expect he’ll be loaned out until Christmas if we bring in more strikers because they’ll want to see how he gets on playing regularly before offering him a new deal.

The trouble with loans is that it requires another club to want to take your player on. It takes two to tango - unlike buying a player when its down to money talking. Each summer this community wants to loan out half a dozen players, but we are lucky to get one or two utilized that way.

Suggesting a loan is a great way for people on here to fudge an opinion, rather than committing to the player being good enough or not and also appear sage.

For what its worth I remember David Boddy's comment that Robins is a good judge of a player. He has stuck by Tavares, who after all does not fit the usual current fashion for big athletic strikers. I wonder whether he sees something there a bit like himself as a player and is prepared to play a long game.

See how he and taveres get on in pre season. I trust robins to make the right call. It’s going to be tricky to attract a really good player either on loan or permanently to basically sit on the bench.

If simms got injured, you’ve got wright who can play down the middle with Mason Clark and Tatts out wide. He was getting more used to the physicality of the league and putting himself about a lot more in the final few weeks of last season.

I understand the logic of this however unless you can stipulate in the loan contract a minimum amount of games/ minutes played you have little control. Owen and Rooney were 16 when they first played in the Premiership. The only way you can see if someone can play that standard is to let them have a go. What may work would be each of them go out for half a season, 1 now the other Jan so they can be the 4th striker and get some real experience of Championship football.

Well, unless we have a load of injuries (which could happen), would he already be 3rd striker behind simms? ie if Simms gets injured, Wright would go up top and EMC out wide?

I’d like the youngsters to get a chance but obviously they’ve gotta be good enough.

Ideal scenario is we find a year long loan in L2 for Dausch. Obikwu and FabTav go on loan for half a season to L1 and we can review at Christmas. We bring in some like Tyrese Campbell to be back-up/compete with Simms.
