Perennial chokers (12 Viewers)

Given the utterly hopeless end to Rory McIlroy's final round in the US Open this weekend (three bogeys in the final 4 holes, including 2 putts that i could have holed), who would you say is his competition for worst perennial choker in sport?

Any other suggestions? Include the provider of the most pathetic excuses too!

(And yes, i am missing football - the Euros don't do it for me!)

Kind of agree, but they never really get themselves into a position where they can win anything. Perhaps perennial underachievers would be a better moniker for them?
They’re very good at self destructing challenges for most things. Though as far as football’s concerned, England probably are top of the pile

In football terms it's probably Leeds. 5 play off appearances as favourite, 4 finals, zero promotions.

I think he might even have overtaken Emma Raducanu and Katarina Johnson-Thompson!

How is Raducanu a perennial choker at the ripe old age of 21 and, to my knowledge, having only ever appeared in one major final which she won?

How McIllroy didn't win that I don't know... he played so well in final round till those 2 putts. As Faldo said he should have taken a 3W or an iron off tee on 18.
Great entertainment though.

Actually, this probably belongs in the "Things that annoy you" thread, but the fact that the "fist pump" (maybe related to what Daz is on about) is the sole (and incessant) means of expressing any form of emotion by any tennis player these days. Bloody automatons, the lot of 'em!

Charles Leclerc is doing a decent job of choking in F1: 24 pole positions so far yet only converted into 6 wins. Not helped by the car and team at times though.

Ohhh sounds strangely interesting. What's it called
It was ages ago as my nan had it on a bookshelf in the room I slept in in her house so read it one summer. Seem to remember it was almost like a family business as a few other people in his family had the role as well.

Looking on t'internet I think it would be Executioner, Pierrepoint, published in 1974.

Well one thing's for certain - Abolishing the death sentence hasn't either.
Yeah. And having didn't either did it. Otherwise no-one would have ever received a death sentence would they and his autobiography would have been how he spent all day sitting on his arse doing fuck all!
