This is the first time in…well…as long as I can remember that we have fielded two teams that could legitimately start the season. Incredible. It seems like yesterday that we were scraping together a team for league one/Two and now we have so many first team teamers to choose from.

Yes it was Getafe, but I feel things are really seating to move apace with regards to the Premier League. We have hope!

But I wish we still had Gus!

Getafe are a top flight team in Spain and we made them look pedestrian for most parts. Yes it's pre season, but surely that bodes well. Your so right, in previous seasons we would have struggled to put out a coherent first team by this point, and now we can put our two different 11's and still look strong. I feel this year we can seriously go for top 2.

I can't remember a time when I struggled to name a Coventry City stongest 11 because I didn't know who to leave out. I think Dovin in goal, MvE-Thomas-Kitching-Bidwell is first choice back four (sorry binks,JD, etc), I think then Sheaf, Rudoni, Eccles (Torp?), but where does EMC fit into Saka, Simms, Wright?

I know some people think Andrews/Obukwu etc aren't ready but these are players I want to see playing in sky blue. These are good times.

Most encouraging thing for me today was how cohesive it was , how fluid we seemed and it's still early days yet you can see a style and system we want to play. Yes there was rustiness in front of goal but it was front foot football , fast , direct and we made a top flight La Liga side look ordinary .
I'm all in this season, we are going to be thereabouts all season 😍😍

Where would this team finish in the league?

Collins
Burroughs Lats Kitching Dasilva
Allen Eccles Palmer
Rodriguez ST EMC

Depending on who the ST is you’d back it for lower mid table surely?

I certainly think once the window is done our so called second 11 would be around lower mid table yes. Not bad hey?

I think the important thing is to contrast this "second choice" team against the depth options from just 2 seasons ago. Thelikes of Maguire, Walker, Waghorn to name a few. Yes we still need another striker and probably another CM but other than that we would be leaving some good players out of the matchday 20.

LB somewhere close to MVEs level is needed as well as a CM and ST. If we want to push top 2.

Need to sell a LB and a GK and loan out a few fringe players and we can really look forward to an exciting season.

When was the last time we had 7 internationals in our squad? Dovin, Saka, Wright, Dasilva, Lati, Palmer, Obikwu.

On top of that from our U21s Howley, Andrews and Rodrigues all capped at that level.

Also would expect Rudoni and Simms to be capped this year of we do well.

Rudoni is eligible for the US so if they are watching Wright he has an opportunity to make a claim.

Simms is eligible for Jamaica so whilst Lati and Palmer been watched he also has an opportunity to stand out.

Sure Rudoni couldn't play for the US. He was approached for the Olympics but didn't qualify for some reason

I don't disagree here but one could argue from last season we have actually only added one player in EMC?

Rudoni has replaced O'Hare and Raphael didn't even play yesterday...

The depth is good, but not actually substantially better than last year (we are all incredibly hopeful some of kids/grads step up - Andrews, Obikwu, Burroughs) but we may be getting a bit excited at the moment. 100% need a top quality CM and another striker.

I would actually argue we are 2 players down on the start of last season. If we accept Ayari was replaced by Torp in January. Then since the start of last season we have lost Moore, McFafzean, Kelly, Hamer, OHare and Godden, so 6 players. And we have brought in Dovin, Rudoni, EMC and Rodrigues.

I think we have brought in quality but we were short on numbers at points last season, so again need to be concerned the same could happen this season. We have been linked with a new CD, a new CM and new ST, it is possible we need the 3 new players to compete in all matches next year without been short on numbers.

I prefer it when you post on here using the medium of song 🎵, I was a bit disappointed to open the thread and just see you've written your thoughts for a change 😉

Who do you think Simms is getting capped by??? Not England surely?

Come on Dean Austin sort it out, we need top quality players at a dirt cheap price who have no chance of being capped for any country. Can't be that difficult ffs!
