Owning the club comes with no responsibility. No one is going to sack him. The person responsible for the club is the manager. It’s his job on the line if we don’t progress.
What ??? I guess Simon Jordan Palaces' previous owner who has admitted many times his time there cost him 50 million might take issue on that point. The person responsible for the club is the owner, if Mark Robbins turns overnight into Russel Slade, the worst that can happen to him is he will be sacked and King will have to pay up his 2/3 year contract, Football is one of the few professions where you can be rewarded for failure.
Look at Man Utd , how many terrible signings have they made over the past few years, costing the club hundreds of millions, yet the manager/s,are mainly supported by their fans, and the owners who are hated rightly so, are blamed for everything.

No one sacks owners. They aren’t responsible for results. They come and go as makes financial sense for them.

It’s like me betting a tenner on a game and claiming I’m now more responsible than the manager for the results.

Yes but all clubs need an owner. Also most fans want an owner with a lot of money.

Most fans would want to tell you where you should be placing that £10 bet. Oh and by the way you should be betting £50 or £100 you cheapskate. No ambition is your problem, you have to speculate to accumulate. Those winnings of yours should be going straight back on more bets and you can hold the price on season tickets for starters.

Your words Owning a club comes with NO responsibility that is clearly nonsense. Spin it how you want to, its nonsense.Even King ends up losing millions of his own money yes you would probably not lose a moment sleep. You think his family would care. You think he is not responsible for staff who may lose their jobs at the club. Wow.

If CCFC go bust Doug will walk away unharmed. He’s not a small business owner putting his life savings on the line FFS.
If we go bust Doug is highly unlikely to get away unscathed. Most likely is that he will lose millions. That is the norm in football.

If your club is successful you make money if it’s really unsuccessful you lose a lot of money.

That’s the known risk an owner takes but let’s not pretend football ownership is risk free, it’s far from it.

The Everton owners have pumped nearly £600m into the club and couldn’t attend matches they were hated so much. They can’t walk down the streets of Liverpool without being abused.

No, gambling isn’t risk free. But if you gamble more than you can afford that’s on you. We live and die as a club on what the manager does.

If King doesn’t expect to lose millions running a football club he’s in the wrong business.

You’ve changed your tune. A few minutes ago he would walk away unharmed if the club went bust, now he should expect to lose millions …. Vehicle reversing …

I don’t think losing money you’ve willingly gambled is a harm 🤷🏻‍♂️

(gambling addiction aside, though I’d argue with “willingly” in that case)

Well Mike Ashley didn't lose millions selling Newcastle did he.I believe he made nearly 200 million profit. And I expect the Glazers will make hundreds of millions maybe billions when they finally sell Man Utd.So no owners don't all expect to lose millions. Rich people don't usually like to lose money it's why they are rich and you and I aren't.

The joke “how do you make a small fortune in football? Start with a large one” exists for a reason.

There’s poker players who have won big too. There’s always gambling success stories. They aren’t representative.

If a woman has a relationship with a man who turns out to abuse her does she leave the relationship unharmed because she knew that in any relationship there is a risk ? No she leaves harked by the experience ….

If a cricketer gets his teeth knocked out by a fast bowler does he leave the pitch unharmed because he knew it could possible happen ? No he leaves harmed by the incident

The definition of harm is not willingness

All owners know they could possibly lose their Investment. It's acceptable loss to most of them

The odd thing is though fans think they own the club, it belongs to them. They just expect someone else to fund it. They have loads of money therefore they can afford to lose it.

Spoken like a man who has never run a business of any scale …..
Owning a modern day football club is a vanity project for rich folk. They invest until they get bored, most of them have the financial clout to give it a go but will be insulated personally from risk. The ones that fail often over leverage rather than getting investors on board as this means less control. DK is a very smart cookie and knows that unless he is a complete idiot he will have a saleable asset should he choose to do so just by putting the club on a normal footing from where it was. Building new infrastructure at Ryton strengthens the price of the asset for instance.

We can probably forget a top six push again this season.
Losing 50% of a decent management team means we have to rebuild peoples knowledge and trust of each other.
Having another pre-season influx of quite a quantity of players also means getting to know each others way of playing, which is key to any successful team.
Mid table at best for me, and then hopefully a top six next season.

We've signed only 3 new players brand new to the squad?

No, but if he’s loaning the club money he wouldn’t get it back so would lose significant sums.

He’s doing a good job atm, I don’t get this section of supporters that are so sceptical of him. Commercially, we were a mess during SISU and the relationship so poor, the couldn’t increase prices at all.

Even with all of Doug’s price increases, ST prices are cheaper than they were in 2008/9ish. Which is pretty remarkable when you look at it like that.

In his 3 transfer windows as owner, we’ve spent more on players (including as a % of transfer revenue) than at any point we have a club since relegation from the Prem.

Owners don't always walk away unharmed if it fails, many have taken a massive financial hit. They do have responsibility for the overall success of the club, but they aren't accountable in the way that managers are.

Or we win promotion with a top 2 finish, largely credited to a marked improvement in the coaching structure, methods & personnel.

Could you please put names to the long list of players that have joined our squad during this pre-season, I’ve obviously not been paying attention.

You see, I'm a bit worried about Viveash leaving (why change something that's worked?) but for all we know... yet, a change is as good as a rest. Will stop players getting complacent anyway.

I though Gary mac played in Championship, or is my memory failing?
He did, but it was a bit later on. He left to go to Liverpool in our last season in prem (bigger loss than Keane for me). Strachan stayed for a few games in the first season down, then (I think), Nilsson came back and was manager till near the end of the season. THEN, McAllister came back as player manager.

So I think the conclusion is - Doug is risking his own money, or those of his own investors. He's appointed himself CEO to oversee this investment.

He's accountable to his own bank account and / or investors and that means he has plenty of skin in the game. The idea he walks away unscathed if he fucks this up is complete bollocks. He'll have lost a lot of people a lot of money (presumably including himself) and ultimately will have failed. If he's a super rich man, he's earned the right to take that risk.

Robins - any manager - wants an owner who will back them and give them the infrastructure to suceeed. As best I can tell, Doug is doing that and trying to do it in a way that limits his losses, which are also the club's losses - the thing all of us deeply care about and know has been to the absolute brink due to a total lack of this in the past.

What's wrong with this? Other than we seem to have a very well qualified woman running a lot of the strategy of course. Fucking hell.
