2024/25 League 1 Champs?

Couldn’t be arsed for this one as it was just a friendly but wish I’d gone now 😭😂

Genuinely interested, obviously we scored 3 but were Everton just rusty/shit or did we play them off the park? Not suggesting anything either way I just didn’t see the game.

they didn’t have their first choice back line, having said that Holgate and Keane aren’t exactly donkeys….

midfield and up front were mostly first team (I think), they just looked a couple of weeks behind us in terms of sharpness, BUT we did look very good and there’s a lot of positive signs

played forward quickly, great balls into the box, one and two touch football in the main, Rudoni and EMC outstanding, Saka looked sharp and the defence looked solid, particularly Thomas and Binks. MVE was also stand out, both on the attack and in defence.

keeper had nothing much to do, but looked confident.

the only slight criticism, they did play through the midfield a few times, need Sheaf back in there to cut that out

all in all though a very good performance

I honestly think Torp could end up being top quality player. I just don’t know if Robins would start with a three off sheaf, Rudoni and Torp as it might leave us a bit light defensively and he’s naturally cautious. got some good options though
To put it candidly, it’s an area we’re still lacking in quality.

We signed him from Peterborough not the club he played for before

Obviously. People were talking as if EMC just cannot play RW which isn’t true. Going into this season, there isn’t enough goals in midfield (even if Rudoni met his xG from last season) to drop either Wright or Simms and EMC is our marquee signing this summer. It’s a matter of when, not if that Sakamoto is displaced in favour of one of them.

No

But take a look at the depth of the teams we want to be challenging

Burnley
Luton
Leeds
Sheff Utd

They lose a midfielder of quality another slots in

We dont have that at the moment

Allen, Eccles and Palmer are established Championship players who have got to play off finals and FA Cup semi finals in recent years.

They aren't world beaters, but they aren't untested kids being forced in because of injuries.

Obikwu however, is not a good enough second choice striker.

We looked where I’d expect us to be at this point in pre-season, Everton looked the few weeks behind that they are. Can’t understate the benefit in the players getting a few home friendlies under their belt either.

12 goals and 5 assists after he moved to a LW position last season...

Sure but it doesn't mean he bullied right backs , he was good coming onto the ball in and around the box or running onto balls in the channels .

EMC is the sort of player that will run at you and you will shit yourself .. better feet than wright too

Wright is going to alternate between left side and centre forward this season depending on form and fitness both of himself and others

He did, just not with trickery. Any long, direct or though ball to Haji was almost impossible to stop.

Two very different players. I'm not sure any right back would want to face either of them.

Yes they were. How many goals did he score drifting in from the left. Our fans have such short memories

I can't remember many right backs that haji wright terrorised ? he scored goals sure .. EMC is the sort of player that will have right backs subbed off because they've had enough .. a natural winger with pace power and skill .
