What about our Leaky Defence ? (10 Viewers)

So with BTA almost certainly incoming, attack seems to be secured.

A CM would be nice to support Torp and Sheafy.

But apart from upgrading Binksy from loan to perm and bringing in Dovin, are people happy with our defence ?

Having a greater Goals Against last season than the previous Playoff year, is still unnerving to me.

Happy and last year was a gelling year ?

Needs to be looked at ?

Rebuild the back 5 ?

The view on the defence, and the goals against stat is completely warped by the fact we capitulated in the last 6 or so games.

Did you notice that we signed an international keeper?

Defence usually starts from the front. It isn't always players in isolation but the whole system being applied. If the team is defending as a unit and trying some new principles to last season then let's see.
Just beat me to it. I was going to say that our press last night was quite impressive. Not a lot of championship defenders are going to like that.

Thomas still scares the shit out of me with his passing sometimes. That pass to Calvert-lewin last night o_O

A Right Back and Centre Mid are needed. Then if we let one of the Goalkeepers go, we can bring in a Centre Back. Squad would then be 25 senior players:

GK - Dovin, Collins/Wilson
CB - Thomas, Binks, Latibeaudiere, Kitching, New CB
RB - van Ewijk, New RB
LB - Bidwell, Dasilva
CM - Sheaf, Eccles, Torp, Allen, New CM
AM - Rudoni, Palmer
RW - Sakamoto, Raphael
LW - Wright, Mason-Clark
ST - Simms, Tavares, Thomas-Asante*

*Not announced yet.

I'm sorry that your eyesight is failing you. Dovin was mentioned in the original post.

Is he your only answer ?

Or do you have other concerns ?

If not, that's fine.

The post was to gather opinions.

Not this forum's regular snarks.

They score 4 we will score 5
I think the idea this season might be to fight fire with fire

Didn't Charlton or Best say in the early 70s "We don't care if they score 4 because we know we'll score more".

If that's the case, this is going to be a crazy and exciting season.

I say this a lot but look at other sides that play an exciting front foot style of football , teams like Man City , Liverpool and Arsenal all concede goals .
That is the compromise we have , it's either that or go back to a back 5 with Eccles and Kelly sitting in front

Have I missed something? BTA certain?

Think there's more noise to this than previous rumours (including Stamenic) so I'm prepared to stick my neck out.

Nothing is certain until the club announce though.

Agree. There should be a balance between defending a 1-0 or going for broke. Does having an average defence make up for having an exhilarating attack ?

They aren't average , where has this nonsense come from?

Ours aren't world beaters either. They're good Championship level defenders. If you wish to put them higher than that, you are welcome to.

in my opinion we have a better defence than last season. For instance Thomas started last season quite poorly but by the end of the season was a monster. it was his first season in the championship. this season he starts with a whole season of championship exp under his belt. likewise kitching, van ewijk and binks. i think, whilst nothing is certain, they all have the potential to be better than last season esp kitching. if we still had mcfadz we might worry of age will catch up to him, but we have a young defence that this season has a lot more championship exp than last.

I’m worried when Kitching is in the team . To me , he hasn’t improved & his general hoofing to nobody in particular, shows the league 1 player is still there .
His sendings off , also show us that he isn’t fleet footed & we could do with off loading & replacement coming in .
If this happens, Robins will have a lot of egg on his face

I don’t think we’ll get a CB and a RB, it’ll be one or the other. Assuming BTA signs, I agree that’s attack sorted and a CM is need to boost the ranks.
