My prediction is that Carsley will get the job on an interim basis, we’ll try for Pep at the end of the season and if he says no as well as Carsley doing well, LC will get the job on a perm.
I’m surprised Potter hasn’t (seemingly) been contacted!

I hope Carsley gets it permanently. Potter hasn’t done anything more than him to deserve the job. Also if you were Potter and earning a huge sum of money for sitting on a beach for the next 3 years why would you take a 50% pay cut to go to work?
Worth a crack on an interim basis. Plays good football but will all depend how the big players react to him

Potter, to his credit, is a brilliant tactician that could suit the role well. There are question marks how he’d manage a squad of big characters that exist in the England team.
As for Carsley, personally I’m a fan. His work in the U21 setup was really good, exciting football and adaptive to difficult situations. It would translate well to the international game. Southgate, for his fault, was England best ever manager barring Sir Alf Ramsey and Carsley actually won silverware at the age group level. It’s not a bad idea to follow Spain when they appointed de la Fuente. The big question marks over Pep and Klopp is (aside from being foreign-born) is how does their methods translate in a part-time and KO game environment. Both managers have done fine in domestic leagues but arguably, especially in Pep’s case, have underperformed at the highest level in the Champions League.
The best foreign-born manager could arguably be Tuchel and I say that despite not favouring him.

Always thought Lee Carsley was a very good player tbh,a friend of mine told me that when he played for Everton a Real Madrid scout really rated him but dropped a bollock by recommending Thomas Graveson to Real instead.... because both he and Lee looked similar

I suppose because Potter will eventually need to return to management at some point and 5 years of inactivity doesn’t look great with that.

I don’t think any top manager actually wants the job. The best ‘high profile’ managers that would take the job would be Poch, who hasn’t won anything of note in England. Tuchel would be next up and his media management, is not suited to the job imo. How would the public react after a few bad results at the helm with a German or Argentinian at the helm? Probably not well.
Talk of Pep or Klopp was always ridiculous and even Eddie Howe has a great project at Newcastle to work with. The remaining Englishmen, you’ve got Potter, Lampard or Gerrard. Potter wouldn’t have been a bad shout but hasn’t won any major tournaments. With respect to Lampard or Gerrard, it’s only their mates in the media who think they’d do a good job - both completely unsuitable for the role at this point.
Carsley has won the U21 Euros and coached half the players in our current squad. Some of the best international in recent years have come through the national team pathways. His work with the U21 isn’t to be understated, he’s an innovative coach who plays the way people want.
This ‘safe and cheap’ trope is lazy.

Yeah, fine him the chance, he knows the system well.
Not advocating for him as England manager going forward, at this point, but it makes perfect sense as a temporary measure doesn't it.

Very interesting first squad from Carsley. Looks like he’s decided to reward some of his key players from his U21 team. Probably good to have some players that know him in there. Surprised Wharton hasn’t been called up but that’s the only surprising omission.

Angel Gomes is an interesting one and clearly been picked to get us working an actual system.
England's issue at the Euro's was an inability to work through the lines - similar to Coventry without Sheaf.
If you watch Carsley's U21 team Gomes is integral to how everything starts in possession.
