Sadly JDS is not a good option either. I've been crying out for better defensive options. Still 20 days left in the window for a CM and defender. Fingers crossed!

Watching the goal back, I think he thinks Thomas is getting the cover on, which he was we but just not quick enough. If he backs off and goes with Baker, Manhoef probably drives into the box before Allen gets to him.

Unfortunately he didn't cover himself in glory there. I still think we have bigger issues than Bidwell playing left back.

I’ll be interested to see Dasilva with EMC on that left. Think Bidwell makes it difficult sometimes when he receives a ball under some pressure near the touch line, he opts for a first time hopeful ball down the left which doesn’t always come off, we saw it a few times today. Can come off a little clumsy at times. EMC worked well with a comfortable ball playing LB last season that he could feed off, confidently move inside knowing he’ll receive it.

Jake Bidwell - good defender, not a great footballer

Jay Dasilva - good footballer, not a great defender

Offensively I think I’d still prefer JD in possession whilst EMC is occupying defenders.

JB had an alright return on assists last season but I want players who are going to keep the ball under pressure and feed the players we’ve spent all this money on.

Personally, I thought Bidwell did ok today. He does at least look to cross when he gets in decent positions, and he gets properly stuck in.

The goal was a defensive car crash; no cover from midfield and gaps all over the place. No one covered themselves in glory there, so to pin it on Bidwell seems harsh, imho.

Still the best option we've got at left-back, regardless.

You could see he was struggling a bit to get things joined up with the wingers on his side, but he was far from the worst player today.

He’s not great defensively either. Was reading a Stoke fan preview earlier that had him down as a defensive weakness with stats to support it.
If he’s falling short in that department too then we really need two left backs!

Bidwell was fine today. Suffered from emc playing too wide first half.
I thought him and Allen could of done better for the goal.

But no one covered themselves in glory.

Plenty of work to do ahead of Brizzle on Tuesday, but I'm sure we won't start with Allen and Torp together in midfield.

He gets away with a lot of stuff that Dasilva would get absolutely crucified for.

I said the other day that I'd love to see us go out and spend a decent sum on an MVE equivalent for left back. Easier said than done I know, but it's definitely a weak spot.

I suspect if there was one we’d found we would have.

Not sure why anyone’s opinion of him would have changed today? Always been a good defender but limited going forward.

Bidwell takes a big chunk of fault for the goal as well as the clear cut header on to the post, yet still wasn’t the worst player on the pitch.

I agree on paper though he’s the worst starting 11 player now.

I'm a huge bidwell fan, defended him numerous times

However today, was the first time I looked at him and thought, are you what we need anymore?

Totally agree. Making him captain was bizarre.

He’s a solid pro but he’s not a leader, not vocal, not a motivator, and the fact he got the nod shows how few leaders we have in the team …..
