For those rambling on about needing one still, look at what is right in front of you. Jack Rudoni is the Hamer replacement we’ve been calling out for, energy, good passer, up and down work rate, good tackler, eye for goal. We need a solid number 6 in now as I think Sheaf can play as a hybrid 6/8 and Rudoni as the 8/10 then with someone behind them mopping up our midfield will be quality

I think we are in danger of under estimating Torp. Quality player in need of game time and match fitness. Last night he instigated the move that produced the winner. His movement is very good but at the moment we are playing so disjointedly and players are not recognising his movement. It was there last night on so many occasions where he is demanding the ball in pockets of space but going unoticed by the likes of CB's and Allen in particular, who runs around and enables very little.

He wasn’t on the pitch when we scored the winner.

I thought Rudoni played well last night in a much deeper role . Like I've said in other threads , he is strong in the tackle , covers the ground easy and times his runs into the box well. Can easily see him long term playing as an 8

Fully agree I've been saying for a while, Rudoni is the Hamer replacement and not O'Hare's. We are not replacing O'Hare as we don't play with an AM anymore (and have players who could play there if needs be). What we do need is another CDM.

By "instigated the move that produced the winner" I take it he did that by walking off the pitch and taking a seat on the bench.

Generally agree with this although Rudoni doesn't have Hamer's passing ability or vision. Not sure he can thread a pass like Palmer did last night for instance.
Hopefully he can be developed.
At the moment I just want to see him demanding the ball, controlling it and passing it forward. Like we saw a lot of in preseason.

I was thinking the same, but if he is going to play the 8 role, we need a new 10.

I always wonder what people mean when they say Hamer replacement or any players name with replacement? Do they mean a quality player in their position or do they expect a clone or a replica?

I always think you should judge the new player on their abilities rather than compare them directly with the old player.

Recruiting should be about balance while improving a team/squad on stats lost from certain individuals leaving. I don't want a replica of COH or Hamer, i want better stats throughout the squad which transfers into better players and a stronger club. Fans fall in love with individuals, successful managers make the group fall into line to create the desired ending.

If i could replace a COH with 2 younger attacking cheaper players that are an improvement on his stats, id take it everytime. In my opinion Rudoni wasn't anyone's replacement just a very good player with favourable stats, to compare his style is unfair and not even realistic. I think we have plenty to improve on and need certain positions improved to add that balance, but i enjoyed watching COH, Hamer, Vik but they are gone and not coming back. Lets enjoys new players without comparison of the past and hope stats keep getting better.

One of the aspects missing from our current midfield options that Hamer did bring was drive.

That ability to run quickly with the ball and transition us at pace from defending to counter attacking from the centre of midfield.

We've seen that Rudoni can play deeper from yesterday, which is all good but that then leaves us with just Palmer as the furthest forward midfielder.

I like Palmer, but he's not what's going to take us to the next level. When he keeps it simple he's effective but too often than not he thinks he's the second coming of Ronaldinho... great when it comes off but 3/5 times it ends up in us losing the ball.

An interesing idea could be Torp as the furthest forward. He's got a good final ball and decent vision but has never looked comfortable being sat deeper alongside Eccles.

We also will miss the obligatory yellow card, and possible 3 reds per season.

Would have him back in heart beat though obviously!

Torp and Rudoni are quality. We are going to do very well this season if we have a bit of luck with injuries.

I mean someone who brings to the team what he did in terms of our build up play. Without him we’ve looked pedestrian and uninventive on the ball.

You could just as easily say we’ve never replaced Dion Dublin. There is no linear identikit squad profile that you have to adhere to. Hamer left. We’ve since bought new signings in. The squad evolves.

Someone with similar attributes and strengths.

Rather than someone with different attributes and having to change your style of play away from something that was working.

Taking a step back we were really lucky to have Hamer. Apart from his red card period he was truly outstanding.
These players don't come along too often but we had him and made decent money from him...
I'd take him back in a heartbeat but that won't happen.
What we need to do is not try to replace him but reshape ourselves to accommodate the players we now have, who are very talented...

Hamer came for £1 million, left for near £15 million apparently. Rudi around £2 million so about same as when Hamer came at current rates.
Gus was a slow burn and got better and better. Lets hope he moves on so we get our 10%.
Rudi has played one and a quarter competitive games, yesterday against a tired Bristol second team.
Really too early to judge how good he will become. Huddersfield fans said he wont score goals.
Like all the new players, need time to bed in before we can judge.

If Rudi is the Hamer replacement then he needs to play next to Sheaf (or Torp or Eccles ) he's further than that which means we lise an attacking space in the side. I'm not against the idea but as a direct replacement Robins needs more balls!

But that is why the dynamics of teams are always shifting because you can't get exact replacements and it's hard to even get similar at the right level and within a certain budget.

Also sides can't play the same 11 week in week out, so managers have to be far more open minded than fans.

Why is this only the case for Hamer? No one is complaining we haven’t replaced Vik or O’Hare because we have.

But neither replacement is like for like. This is I think the very point being made.

Simms isn’t a similar player to Vik is he.

I think Simms and Haji both have different shades of Gyokeres in their game, Haji has the run out wide with the ball and hit the line, cut in. Simms has the hold up recieving the ball back to goal bustling defenders and getting a shot off

No but he’s replaced Viks goals and ability to play up on his own. Literally no one is asking for a carbon copy. They are saying Hamer hasn’t been replaced in the team like Vik and O’Hare have. I’m notnsure why this is confusing so many n

Rudoni is not a Hamer replacement, unfortunately we have no one that tracks back like Gus.
Anyway we are 2 games in and not even 1 red card.
