Similar crowds across the matches tonight. Even Leicester only got 13,000 and Tranmere took a few thousand. Similar numbers at Palace too.

From an attendance POV, drawing Oxford at home was possibly the worst possible draw. Complete lack of interest in the fixture because we’d just played. Oxford away I reckon would’ve been a good crowd, although I was shocked at how bad Oxford’s away following was tonight.
Personally, I’d scrap the EFL cup altogether.

Yep. The crowds are so low for it. Seeing Premier League clubs like Leicester and Palace who sell out every single game get 13,000 is pretty stark.

They've grown a little in the FA Cup in recent years. There's definitely been a little resurgence in that competition. Let's not forget we got 18,000 against Oxford in our first FA Cup game last season.

Unless by chance there is a local derby drawn, pretty much every match in the early rounds of this competition until the big boys enter do have a real pre-season friendly feel to them - low crowds, a lot of changes to teams etc.

Either make it open to just the clubs who have do not European football, so your middle of the road Premier League sides have more of an incentive to take it seriously as opposed to Man City or Liverpool's second string (who would still beat most Prem sides) winning it 9 times out of 10

Or, a bit of a curveball idea - propose to combine it with the Scottish and Welsh versions of the competition and make it a whole British cup, the French do a similar thing with the with the Coupe De France where clubs from the French colonies and dependencies are invited, a part time side from Martinique in the Caribbean ended up getting quite far and drawing Lille away last season - Lille 12-0 Golden Lion: Martinique side make 8,000-mile round trip in French Cup

I’m guessing that the no pay on the gate thing is because these days they want people to buy a ticket so they know exactly who has been to each game. Then when we get to the final there is no one claiming they went to every round but haven’t got any points for it.

Personally I think the ticket pricing was ok considering the millions of pounds of talent on display, and the investment in the clubs training facilities, the increased number of coaching staff, and the increase in the wage bill etc.

We can't moan about the ticket price while demanding another signing in the same week!

We should care about all the cups, last season proved that. The lower crowd was always going to happen due to the date, just playing them but more importantly the ridiculous idea of funnelling everyone through a ticket office. It must have put several thousand off going through that nonsense.

I understand that there's an economic argument, but if this fixture was Leicester or Birmingham in the cup, people would find the £30 for a ticket if it was home or away.

There's next to zero interest in the EFL Cup and as well as being an inconvenience being midweek, as it's early in the season there were times last night and Bristol in the cup it felt like an extended pre-season. The cherry on the top is deja vu of playing 2 consecutive games against the same opponents.

In fairness, it’s quite a flight from Bangkok for you!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m trying to build my points so these games become important. What I’m trying to is that if people really want to go, the cost is only a secondary concern.

Separate point now: These cup games are the most efficient ways to build the points, for example, Stoke and Bristol cost £64.40 for two adults (including admin + postage) for 20 loyalty points. Bristol and Oxford meanwhile, cost under half that amount for 50 loyalty points.
