I think too many people convinced themselves we'd be having a crack at the autos, which was never realistic.

Was utterly ridiculous. I think after years of SISU spending 50p people thought spending millions ( albeit mainly the money received from selling 2 players that left a gaping hole) would make us world beaters
All very interesting now as I see a large proportion of the team that could go either way. Only one I'm sure about is MVE. If they all build on the glimpses they have shown we could still be a fantastic side

Yeah I know and they didn’t want to miss out on cashing in with 1 year left and I’m sure they had ions in the fire but I’ve woke up to seeing we’ve signed no one to strengthen our midfield that clearly needs reinforcing and it’s shit.

if we spank Norwich I’ll feel better but the jury’s out on Torp, Eccles and Allen for me.

Allen and Eccles have played in a play off final. They've been part of a squad that finishes top half.
They get a lot of stick but they are established Championship players.
But clearly they've needed quality around them to achieve that.

I'm not sure Torp possesses that quality. He was very poor last week. How quickly he gets up to speed, or otherwise, will be a fairly big factor in how our season pans out I feel.

@Jimmy87 can you reveal any targets that we were after seeing as deadline has passed if you cant or it would potentially expose your source its all good dont do that its always good to have someone with a bit of info

yeah, also with Burnley in the league there was only ever 1 auto place open anyway.

Yes we could do with more depth in midfield but as i have said we can field a really strong first XI if all fit and if we lose midfielders we'll adapt.

Maybe we'll even start bypassing the midfield a bit and going longer to the brilliant forwards we have quicker.
We could go 4-4-2 and play to our attacking strengths.

I'm disappointed we didn't sign a midfielder but good lord the overreactions in here from a few.

If we lose today it's going to be an absolute mess on here later.
Tbf, it is abit deflating, yes we've spent a considerable amount of money to achieve top 6 and we have exceptional forward options. But we have to get the ball to them. The midfield has got progressively worse. We’ve gone from the box of

Sheaf*
Hamer
O’Hare
Palmer

to

Torp
Eccles
Allen
Rudoni
Sheaf*

*When fit

Last paragraph is spot on. People seem to have lost sight of the fact that we can adapt if we need to. The run in to the playoffs we were light in midfield and were relying on the likes of Maguire, we changed the way we played and did so very effectively. I can imagine Andrews will play a role and I actually don't mind Lati as a CDM. There are options, and when everyone fit we're fine anyway, I've seen enough of Torp and Eccles to know they have a lot more to give than we've seen so far this season.

Our club is unrecognisable to the one we had just 2 years ago, on and off the pitch.

And I think that’s a good thing tbh, I don’t like this notion that we should look back to where we used to be and use it as some sort of stick to beat fans with. If we want to gain promotion we should expect change and expect more from the club, I think not getting a CM is a disappointment but we’re going in the right direction.

Do we though. Do we honestly look better than teams like Burnley Shef utd, Sunderland, leeds etc. in the league so far weve managed to scrape a win against a team who most are tipping to finish bottom this season and the Bristol game we were lucky to get a point thanks to a moment of skill from a player we have now let go.

anyone that travelled to Stoke and Bristol could see that the big problem with the team was a lack of drive and creativity from our midfield and the only player who tried to resolve that has now been sold with no replacement in an all ready light midfield
Not sure it was lack of drive and creativity at all
It was pattern of play it was speed of play it was simple stuff like pass and move and confidence

we now need some loan signings I feel. Not sure we have enough in midfield to get us to January?

You don't know the rules do you? Loans are restricted to the transfer windows. If we sign anybody now (other than free agents) they can't play until January.

Dear god I expected some nonsense to have been written by some but crikey !

I see the combined meltdown has started

Eccles - not good enough , yet for two seasons he consistently has been

Allen - Missed last season and we missed his energy

Torp - Came with a big reputation, granted hasn't delivered consistently but there is definitely a player in there

Rudoni - Still settling in but there is a star in the making I'm sure of it

Lati - Don't want to see him regularly in midfield but can cover at times

Andrews / Dausch - Both have shown ability and both clearly well thought of

Yes we needed a CM and we are not quite there without signing one but 90% of clubs don't have a perfect squad with cover for every eventuality.

Personally I think we will hover around the top 8 -10 till January and strengthen again.

Enjoy the ride #pusb

I remember going to Huddersfield a couple of seasons ago. We had about 3 fit midfielders at the club and had to start Howley. Everyone was flapping. We won 4-0.

I get the lack of depth and injuries will be an issue, but we have options and there is more to come from Eccles, Torp and Rudoni for sure.

Fair enough, and I don’t feel like I’m in hysterics over this window, but are Lati, Eccles, Andrews, Dausch top 6 material? They’re just championship players rather than anything special and I think that’s the main concern, where’s the standout quality in midfield that’s going to propel us into the prem? Sheaf is good and Rudoni probably will be great in time but we’re really light on playmakers in midfield.

If there was a book of hysterical Cov fans you’d be on the front cover.

Eccles is quality and has been for two seasons . He is underrated by many on here for no real justifiable reason .
And with the two youngsters I guess the only way of knowing how good they are is by playing them but Dausch showed glimpses last season

I think 4-4-2 would suit us down to the ground tbh. Sheaf and Rudoni/Torp as the 2 CMs, Sakamoto as RM, either EMC or Haji as LM, and Simms and Haji/Asante up top.

Considering we have such strong attacking options in our wingers (depends if you count Haji as able to play LM or not) compared to our midfielders, I think 4-4-2 is the way to go imo.

It is strange to not get a midfielder in when we targeted Browne and stamenic
I wonder if that was to enable sheaf to be sold

to be honest if i was Robins i would be livid
Problem is he doesn’t appear to be livid.

MR said they don’t want players in due the sake of having bodies, but sometimes that’s what squad depth is about - having a body that you can throw in to try to change the course if a game. Palmer for all his inconsistency got us a goal last week and now we don’t even have that. Big deal if he was on the last year of his contract. We let COH walk out as a free agent didn’t we? We must be desperately short of cash if we needed to sell Palmer who mustn’t have cost much.

If they don’t want bodies, then what are Allen. Eccles and Torp who cannot string 2 forward passes together? We have 500 strikers to sub in and out for the attacking third but nothing for midfield and defence. This will not hold until Jan I’m afraid. But at least MR will have his readymade excuses on why we dropped points.

Everyone else was busy signing players and we couldn’t even make a stopgap loan deal. That’s very disappointing.
