Well it's plainly obvious the benefit - but also the detraction. (professionally more so than personally)
He's 28 FFS, just broken into the England squad and now busted himself out of it.
Surely SPL (not that one!) is the retirement home of the over thirties?

He will make a fortune for a year, as think he will be back at a PL team for the start of next season.

Good move imo, was bumming around the FL until about 24/25. Earnt a decent wage but probably well behind the likes of England team mates, yes, he's gone probably 5 years early, but he may never get another opportunity to earn this sort of money. Ultimately football means nothing and he needs to put himself and his family first.

He might, but after 2 years it's all tax free and is reported as £50m over 3 years. If he's not going to start for England and can be a superstar over there, then you can't fault his decision.

That’s the key isn’t it. He won’t have been on major money so far (think I read he was still ‘only’ on £50k a week at Brentford) and time is running out to get the major contract(s). Couple of years over there and then back to a lower-to-mid PL team I’d imagine.
