Early days but basics lacking (4 Viewers)

My main concern this season is we seem poor at the basics....

Don't press together as a team
Passing is poor and is either behind the player and weight of pass poor too
Our throw-ins.....lack of movement and options
Corner kicks/free kicks/throw -ins to Opposition.....we switch off regularly

Are we missing Adi and Lawrence?
Are new coaching set up an improvement?
Is it transition?
Players not good enough?

We used to be a dynamic team with good movement and intricate passing movements. I see very little evidence of this now. Instead it looks like we are setting up to try and grind out a 1-0. As we tend to concede first, this all goes out the window and then there is a change in intensity.

Absolutely, approach to games this year is going backwards vs last season.
I've just seen Robins comments after the game too. Disappointing imo although he deserves plenty of time to fix.

Throw ins have infuriated me for years. The only person who ever provides any movement is Allen.

We were a dynamic team against Everton and Werder Bremen.

We have never really heard why Adi left. If it’s a Doug decision rather than Robins I would be worried. My hope is that Robins knows what he wants and we have to trust the process, but he might miss his right hand man more then he’ll realise.

Absolutely. Those performances have me a lot of hope for the season. For some reason, as soon as the league began, it disappeared.

It shows it's there.

I'm glad we're playing away in our next game because the based on this place tonight, the CBS would be toxic.

We weren’t any good at any of those things with Adi and Lawrence here.

I totally agree.

I also don’t get why we don’t use MVE’s long throws a bit more. Not to be overdone but it can be a useful tactic.

Probably because all our starting players are pony in the air. Would invariably result in losing possession again.

I suppose if City has a two week break then I can put this up.

Still only 4 games in.

We haven’t kept a clean sheet in ages. Grinding out 1-0? Forget it.

If you look at every past early season bed wetting thread on here I've always remained optimistic, argued against the naysayers, pointed out the reasons for my optimism and, ultimately, Ive been proven to be right.

But I don't have that this season, I've nothing to cling to other than Robins has turned things around multiple time he'll do it again, (though even with that Im now wondering how much was down to Viveash and mre recently Lawrence).

Our CBs are poor. Our Mr reliable left back is playing his worse football since he came here.

Our midfield is dreadful, and right winger seems to be devoid of confidence and Our main striker just hasn't got going yet.

Sheaf coming back will help, hopefully Torp can start putting in performances for 90 minutes like his first 20 minutes yesterday and it took Simms a while to get going last season so hopefully he'll start firing again soon so there are potentially some positives but it's not looking great at the moment.

Yeah I think the money that’s been spent makes some of the bed wetting justifiable. Still feel it’s a bit too early to be making wholesale changes to formations etc, but 10 games in if we haven’t seen an improvement we need to do something quite different.

I’m confused at what the style of play is. A few years back, we were a dangerous counter attacking team, often giving up possession and it worked. Now we are possession based doing nothing with it. Got to get the style right along with the formation.

Robins also needs to find out who his best CB pairing is and stick with it!

The concern for me is how unbelievably predictable our play is. It just involves going out to our full backs who pass up to our wingers and then they cut back and pass backwards.

Apart from any moments of individual play on the wing when Haji/EMC can beat a man on the odd occasion then we seem to repeat the exact same play all game. Absolutely 0 creativity in the middle of the park and no one seems to trust the CMs in any event.

Good analysis and I pretty much agree with all of it.I felt totally deflated after yesterday's 2nd half performance, can't for the life of me understand why Robins brought EMC on to play right wing (initially) after Tats injury, it's pretty obvious he needs to play on the left or not at all.
Hopefully Robins and Co can turn things around but I'm less confident about it than would normally be the case.
Maybe the events of the of the previous day with Palmer being bombed out of the club after (allegedly) a row with Robins had an unsettling effect on the team?... clutching at straws tbf but the performance of some of the players yesterday beggars belief.

Who plays RW if Tats is injured for the foreseeable

I am baffled by the obsession of playing centre halves in pairings based on being left or right footed. At CH is doesn’t matter. You never hear it with CM’s. For me our strongest CB pairing is Binks and Kitching.

It does matter. All out attacks start from the CBs. That curled ball down the line is vital.

As much as I agree, I can't believe that professional players are that brain dead that they can't remember how to be a professional footballer until a coach tells them to be one....

We’ll start getting it right soon. Sheaf back, possible free agent cm for cover, and a couple of signings in Jan, and I’m sure we’ll be right up there.
