Interview with Robins after Norwich game (9 Viewers)

The best thing that came out of it for me, is the fact that he is obviously telling the players he expects more aggression from them.
It’s way overdue IMO,and I expect to see a few opponents getting clattered for a change.
Teams should know if they want to come here and win, they are going to have to earn it.
We have the depth to take the odd suspension now.
100% getting a Binks red card against Watford

Hard to see every little thing from 27 but we looked scared in possession 2nd half.

Bidwell, Rudoni and Torp all had Westons....and the 2 extra punters I bought to the game unlikely to return! Lightweights

I think it affected the crowd which in turn affected the players. You could sense real frustration at the midfield situation.
The "midfield situation" was obvious when Norwich made their changes shame it wasn't obvious to our multitude of coaching staff sitting on the bench. Our changes were made way too late. The crowd did their best but you have to see a spark on the field and there just never looked like coming.
The Callam Doyle incident right in front of me great tackle the sort I would expect our players to make

Good interview. Bits I took away from it…

“we weren’t in a position to offer Kasey a new contract and then you know what Kasey is going to be like” - obviously sounds like he didn’t think he warranted a new contract and wasn’t giving enough when he only had a year left and he explains he agitated the move himself.

And the bit about leadership / aggression and the dressing room where he says “one or two have shown a bit in the dressing room after today”. Any thoughts on who that might be? My guess is Bassette and/or Eccles.
I'd have thought Haji now after a year here tbh
As others have said - several players wanted off. Didn't get what they want and now have to suck it up and realise playing for Coventry is better than working in McDonalds. Massive speculation and I probably shouldn't but I wonder if that might have something to do with our first choice CB pairing sitting on the bench.
I'd wonder about the owner having some say in it tbh !

Why are people literally making stuff up now ??

We are speculating on what Robins didn’t say, who it might be if it’s true, and how they feel about it and why that may have impacted their performance and the mood in the camp …

Jesus wept ….

The crowd did its best all things considered. But the lack of leadership is very clear.
Spot on, even with sheaf we haven’t got that one player who can drag us back into games like that, 1st half wasn’t too bad, 2nd half there was only one winner, we never looked interested, was like watching an away game, maybe asking players to do jobs they can’t ?

It looked to me like there was a fair bit of hoping that someone else would step up. I think for want of a better term, we have lost our way a bit amidst all the upheaval.

Did Doyle get a red card ? Do the opposition players targeting us get red cards? No they don’t.
We have got to be aggressive and be cute about it. You can take the ball and leave something on the man. Happens all the time to us. Don’t need to be stupid and get sent off.

We are soft as shit and the minute anything occasionally happens it’s a red straight away (kitching squaring up to player last season).

Apart from kitching and Thomas we really don’t have anyone who’ll leave a foot in and be a nasty bastard. Time for the mindset of some of the players to shift - we can’t rely on tippy tappy sideways passing anymore.

Robins himself says no one comes in without him signing it off. That’s very clear. No need to speculate.

as for sales it’s common place for managers not to have the final say on this, otherwise clubs would never sell their better players. This has been the case for decades.

Think your right, another season where things aren’t quite right at the start, sheaf out and palmer last minute, players have got used to one way of coaching, maybe they’re being asked to do things they’ve not been used to ( although working your bollocks off shouldn’t be one of them ) we‘ll get there but it’s getting a bit boring playing catch up every season

This isn’t new though s it ?

Outside of Fadz we haven’t had that type of player for a long time …..

It’s therefore not the reason for not being confident in the ball or not doing third man runs.

We have Li’s COH, Hamer and Palmer from our first choice midfield last 2 seasons …. None of which are hard men. All of which are ball players.

Spot on, the plan was to get Tavares out on loan, it fell through, robins said he’s glad it did, with sakamoto looking injured we‘ ll need him

I thought the interview was really good and enlightening. But nothing in there reading between the lines I don’t think.

he’s said a couple of people have spoken up which he didn’t expect, so good.
And he wants us to be more like other teams are to us, which I something I said to my mate at half time, so good.

let’s not forget Dovin didn’t have a save to make. Their one shot on target deflected in from leaving too much space for their players.
That’s not to say we weren’t poor second half, we were.

just sometimes wish our players wouldn’t keep going low with a side foot so making it easier for keepers to save it. Hit it into the top of the net, put your foot through it etc etc.

Think Asante’s finish against us last year - our strikers would have gone bottom corner.

Don't disagree.
You look at our team though and think how many of them really think they are good enough to play at a higher level and have that drive.
MVE. Wright and Simms probably have the potential but need to let it out fully. I'd add Bassete to that but v early days.
You do worry about Robins ability to positively motivate.

TBF though a manager can only go so far, every good team under good managers have at least one leader. Ferguson had Bryan Robson, Keane, Bruce, Pallister, Stam etc. I do think Kitching and Thomas both show leadership at times and both must be brought back into the team immediately.

Yep definitely torp stopped doing what he was doing in the first half
He was excellent with his passing and being daring first half
I think he like other players tired and they shouldn’t as elite sportsman

Really hard men, hamer Palmer are two I'd include in that description tbf and COH for that matter in terms of taking things in his stride, cut head getting knobbled that kind of thing? We did knock it out of Gus to be fair!

Judging by how animated he was on the pitch, definitely Eccles. He was fuming with Boateng/the coaching staff at one point.

I've not heard him say that (not saying he didn't), he just seemed to have the odd grumble here and there about it last year. 'Taken off me...' doesn't have to be interpreted negatively and for balance it is worth noting he praised Doug/Dean. The interview was generally cranky which was probably caused mostly by the result and Sakamoto's injury.

Ultimately you are right that we don't need to read too much into it - the window is closed and some good results/performances against Watford, Spurs, Swansea and Leeds will cure all ills.

Didn't name names. Watch from about 15:50. He just goes off on a bit of an unprompted rant about people agitating for moves and says they need a reality check and to turn up and do the job they are paid to do. I think primarily he is talking about agents and other clubs and it is intended as a general comment but someone has clearly annoyed him. He made similar comments at the end of last season about being fed up with being used as a stepping stone. Hopefully now the window is closed everyone can just focus on football.

You are right that tackle from Doyle was exactly what is needed mind you you have to get near the oposition to do that but in the 2nd half we didn't even get close enough to do it.

I think he had reason to be, him and Torp in particular had run themselves into the ground but the system we were playing left them needing help. Torp I noticed kept looking for movement and had to carry the ball due to lack of it.Then he had to get back and defend certain players think it is below them to do it.IMHO

To put Robins comments about KP into layman's terms “KP is a moody fcker and when he doesnt get what he wants or things dont go his way he will chuck his dummy out and down tools so we got rid whilst we could for a fee”

seemto remember the same thing happening when he was at Bristol and he wonders why he was booed by Brazil fans and JDS got a welcome applause. Weve also seen a similar attitude on the pitch when he lost the ball and instead of trying to win it back he just stood there waving his arms around like a petulant child

Palmer was booed by Brazil fans too? Wow - he's globally disliked

We need a Doyle, Wise or Curtis. Said this weeks ago and got poo poo’d.
