Said he will consider it over the course of the seasonHave you sent it to MR see what he thinks ?
Bassette or BTA or EMC adapting their role for a year till we make the expected sale of one of either Wright or Simms, but got to get him scoring first! It’s not a bad shout but (a) I would, for the time being, continue with Simms up front alongside Wright and (b) I reckon Bassette could be worth trying in the hole behind the strikers. This latter position might also suit BT-A.
We will never know unless MR gives it a go.
He’s gonna have to do something different after the break
Nah 35Sheaf is a 25 game a season player..
Don't know, but I think next season we line up like this: -
Dovin
New guy - Thomas - Kitching - JDS
New guy - Rudoni - Eccles
Sakamoto - Bassette - EMC
Have seen his passes and crossing from lb, harsh. The priorities for me are finding a system that does the following:
- Enables MVE the freedom to get up and down the pitch
- Gives us defensive solidity at left back and someone who can use the ball from that position too
- Stops us getting overrun in midfield
- Gets EMC on the left side of the pitch rather than the right but also facilitates the fact Wright is most effective there
My proposal would be nominally a 4-2-3-1 but that becomes a 3-2-5 in possession, which is broadly what Ipswich used to great effect, and Boro in the season we beat them in the playoffs. It could look a bit like this:
GK
RCB LCB LB
CM CM
RB RW CF AM LW
In terms of personnel. You can do it with:
Dovin
Thomas Kitching Binks
Sheaf Eccles
MVE Sakamoto Simms EMC Wright
The benefits of this would be:
- Less open on the break as no onus on the left back (Binks in this case) to go forward like Bidwell and Dasilva are encouraged to do. He essentially slots in as a LCB
- You can end up with Sheaf or Eccles joining MVE and Sakamoto on the right and EMC and Wright on the left to create overloads
- You fit EMC and Wright in the same team together, they would need to work on their understanding but I'm sure they're both capable
- MVE has even more freedom to pile forward
The downsides:
- Would Binks get exposed out there? Maybe, but he won't be worse defensively than Bidwell has been so far this season or than Dasilva is
- No sure how Rudoni fits, maybe as an alternative to Sakamoto
- I don't think this could work if Sheaf isn't fit as it would be too exposing for Torp/Rudoni and Eccles
