CCFC Women Side (3 Viewers)

Found this an interesting thread on Twitter/X (not mine, just a coincidence on the first name) about the CCFC women's side, the sustainability of it and what it would take to get them at a half decent level

My interest in women's football in the past has if I am honest extended to England tournament matches and that is about it but it is clearly growing and there is a market for it and it would be nice to see anything to do with CCFC rise up the pyramid and get to a good level - I do wonder if it is something the club are looking at developing in the long haul

The womens club is a mess and poorly run and has been for years.
If the mens club have any sense they will stay well away.
They had their most successful season last year and got rid of the manager and coach. They then told the existing players that they would be better off finding new clubs for this season as they were going to go with the reserve team and drop down a level or two.
My daughter was there for 12 years so I speak from experience.

A lot left and went to cov utd years ago but that was a long time back.
This time they have basically said we are going backwards and didnt want to upset the reserve player's by bringing in some of the first team. Its a proper race to the bottom.
The running of the club leaves a lot to be desired.
money wasted on loads of stuff including poor training facilities as they always trained on a hockey pitch that had no relation to grass or astroturf at bablake and paid way more to do it.

It's an interesting topic of conversation. How many did the Cov Utd lot get regularly at the Butts during the 'glory years'? I know the women's game has moved on quite a bit since then but it might give some indication of where a more promoted Cov City women's team would be. As for training, even playing at Higgs would be a great start for little outlay really. Maybe something that can be added to the questions Pete puts via the supporters forum.

Feel like we missed the boat on this. Should’ve invested in it 5 years ago. It’s too difficult to become a successful team now

I wouldn't say so to be fair. Budgets in the Womens Championship then the two regional divisions below that aren't massive.

You could be become a decent Championship side without spending millions.

Because it's not really commercially viable at this point.

The club is already running at a loss, I don't really see why King would want to invest in something that is guaranteed to swallow further capital that, personally, would be far better spent being invested into the club's infrastructure and squad at this stage.

If we get to the PL, King would be better off using the revenue earned from that season to then look to launch and invest into a CCFC women's team.

Yes I was referring to becoming a competitive WSL side.

It’s sad that the vision isn’t there to support a decent championship side.

I do agree to be fair. I get the argument about 'every penny should do into the mens side' etc but having a good womens team will get more females interested in the club over the long term.

One of the womens clubs we work with is Watford WFC. They got relegated from the Championship last season and now, they have to get sign off from the powers that be for a £3k team stay for an away fixture. When you think at what they pay ex-managers they've sacked, it's a drop in the ocean.

Aren’t Coundon Court Women the highest placed club in Coventry now?

I keep seeing stuff about them on social media, they seem quite high up I think?

Seem to remember Cov Utd didn't want to fund the women as it was costing shit loads and not sustainable.

My partner played for Coventry City Women’s team recently, let’s just say the women’s club resembles no links to this football club apart from the name, they are not funded by the club or linked to it in anyway other than a page in the program once a season or a flag wave around the ground at half time.

These are just girls wanting to play with their friends on a Sunday nothing more nothing less.

I was connected to Copsewood Ladies team a few years back, who made it up through the leagues and made it up to the same level as the CCFC ladies team, and even beat them on a couple of occasions! Looking from the outside it seemed to me that they were poorly run as they should have been light years ahead of Copsewood, who were basically self funding through player subs and had to call on a number of players either disaffected by or deemed as not good enough by CCLFC.

CCLFC meanwhile had close connections with people on the Sky Blue Trust who used their influence to help with financial support, while they also had the pick of all the best age groups in the City feeding into them (ironically I think they also led them under the Coventry United banner). They would also get publicity through the Telegraph and CWR which was never afforded Copsewood even though they were in the same league.

On the point of whether CCFC should support the ladies team I would have to say it's a no from me. It would simply be an uneccessary drain on resources. The FA have done their utmost to turn the higher echelons of ladies football into a replica of the mens game, which I think is a shame, leading to Manchester United forming a ladies team and immediately being parachuted into the Premier League. Its funny looking back on those Copsewood days as they also were in the same league as the likes of West Ham, Spurs and Leicester, who they also beat on occasions, but are now all part of the ladies Premier League set up. On the flipside teams like Doncaster Belles, and to a lesser degree Copsewood are deemed to be not worthy and FA obstacles are put in place effectively forcing them to be unable to compete and disband.

It would need loads of money. Even playing at the butts cov United ladies weren't bringing in anywhere near enough money
