My wife and I are staying in the City with two Rovers fans for the game against Blackburn on 1 October. Thinking of staying at the Crooked Hat (as it’s dog friendly) and wondered if any of my fellow posters have knowledge of whether this place is a decent place to stay/eat. Thanks in anticipation.

It was a good independent when Ron and Alma had it, its a Punch Travern now with standard fayre, you have TGI Friday over the road(gone downhill now), and the Craven Arms a bit further down towards town. I think the hotel has decent reviews, Sky Sports staff used to stay there when Coventry Bees were televised.
Edit
The Brandon Oak is meant to be dece6 now, not far away but you're getting further away from the ground

Used to work there for Ron and Alma, was a great pub back then, best pint in the town, We’d just signed Richard Shaw and he was staying there until he got sorted, walked up to me in the bar on his first night and wanted to check in, one of the girls asked him “ what name is it “ he Just looked at me as if to say “ really “ 😂

Monday was jazz night, we used to go up Thursdays, place was packed, a singer one week, disco the next as i recall. Great well run independent boozer, never any trouble, especially with Alma there😄

Mondays 😳 not my favourite night to work, sounded like someone kicking the drums over for 3 hours, true story a band member died one jazz night, nobody noticed for 3 songs, acquired taste

This thread is what the internet was made for.

Human: "is this hotel any good? food decent?"
Internet: "someone sat on stage dead there once!"

Fucking hell. How on earth did no one notice? It sounds awful but it comes across like a comedy sketch.

Place looks lovely on the outside but have no idea on the rooms as never stayed there but the food is bang average and the bar area can be a bit messy.

As someone says you have TGI’s over the road and the Caffeine Project (which is dog friendly) and good for breakfast, coffee and cake etc. and is independent, as well as a Morrisons, Lidl and also Broadstreet Rugby Club which has a bar all within a 5 minute walk.

Moving towards the city you have the Binley Park Inn which is a carvery (I’d avoid) and the Coombe Social but both aren’t dog friendly and then you have the Milllpool which is the best pub locally for food but not dog friendly inside and then the Biggin Hall further down which is dog friendly but just standard pub grub. And of course the Binley Mega Chippy!

Brandon Wood is probably my favourite place to take the dog for a walk locally and although the main entrance is off Ferndale Road you can also go in either via Binley Woods park or behind the garage/Starbucks on the A46.

Great spot for a walk. You can park at Brandon Marsh as well and just cross the road. Good shout.
