Simms is a quality striker, is young and I'm sure will develop even more. I'm sure he will be banging goals and assists in soon. Perhaps a little more thoughtful and quiet than some, but still quality none the less.
Bassette looks to be an unpolished gem. But the raw ingredients he has are there for all to see. That fire and drive I don't think can be coached, you are either like it or not.
Last night we looked properly aggressive, zero respect given to big names and high value players. I'm not saying that is down to Bassette, but when those around you are full of fight it can be infectious.
I'm excited to see how this all plays out.

Last night Bassette's work rate was far higher than Simms when he came on.
Bassette pressed their CB's so they had no time, but with Simms they had all the time in the world. Even when the CB slowed down Simms seemed to slow down as well.
But Bassette did take way too long on that chance in the second half and I think Simms is a good finisher.
As others have suggested I wouldn't mind seeing them together somehow. Bassette working the line and trying to get in behind, Simms sticking central to put away anything that comes his way.
But as it stands the only way I could see that happening if trying him on the right while Tats is injured, and Bassette would have to play a bit differently and may reduce his impact.

But in place of who?
A large part of our good performance was down to the press of Bassette and BTA. When Simms came on he didn't do this and their defence had a lot of time and they controlled the game. So if that had happened from the start and Spurs got control early on and the game may well have been very different.

I see the cycle is repeating again. New player has a couple of good games and now has to replace last seasons top goal scorer.
Until the next stage when the initial honeymoon period is over and the new player then isn't good enough.
Simms and Wright are first choice, with Saka out, I'd give him a go out there.

Last year people were writing Wright right off from the beginning as well as simms. They had no honeymoon period at all, they got pelters from day 1.
There were (and still are) some legitimate questions about them but they've proven themselves as being two of our best players.
Here a new player has immediately shown himself to be a prospect and people are recognising that and are rightly excited.
How is this a cycle being repeated?

Let's not weigh him down with the weight of expectation. That's quite some claim because Gykores is one of the best strikers in Europe and in my opinion easily in the top ten in the world.
All that said, I too am excited by his potential. Credit to our recruitment team not only for finding him but for signing him up for what is increasingly looking like a bargain price.
I know there are views that we have too many forwards and are light in midfield but Bassette was surely too good an opportunity to miss. I'm delighted that he is our player.

I think at some point we will see:

Quite an attacking front 3 but it may be better at an away game as Tats doesn’t seem to be as good when we play away and Bassette’s constant hounding and general cuntishness would likely give us that needed edge away from home that we’ve seemed to lack (see Stoke first game).

I really rate simms and actually think, apart from a couple of misses, has had a good start to the season. He leads the line very well and I’m increasingly impressed with just how strong he is.
Bassette though…”he only 19”!! Has become my mantra. Looks like he’s got potential to be special.

Can't agree with this at all.
Big Norm is head and shoulders above what we saw from Wright and Sims at this time last season, there's literally no comparison.
If Bassette continues to impress and develop he'll be a first team starter this season, so someone will get dropped.
Wright has missed to sitters in the last 2 games, and Simms doesn't work anywhere near as hard as Bassette and doesnt have the pace or movement, so if Norm adds a goal or 2 in the next few games, the shirt it his.

Can't argue about the point that he's looking better than Simms & Wright at the beginning, he is. My point is that he's had 1, maybe two good performances and now he's the new Gyokeres and has to start.
I feel we do similar to the media on England footballers, build them up then dump them.
I think he's had a great start and looks exciting but I know then I'll find myself defending him when he can't keep up the same intensity and the tide turns and "we should have spent the money on a midfielder" comments.
If he continues to out do the others with G/A then he'll get his chance. I would give him a go on the right while Saka is out but give me a choice who I'd want in the box, it would be our best finisher, Simms.

I think Bassette has been very fortunate to come into a relatively settled team/squad whereas Simms and Wright didn't . This time last season we were trying to play wingbacks and a central defensive three and the whole shape and system wasn't quite right .
And your suggestions about Simms application on the pitch are way off the mark to be honest .
Bassette has had a great start and looks to have huge potential but Simms and Wright are still the starting pair up top alongside whoever plays on the right

Give it time. Simms still first choice. Bassette has impressed and should definitely get more mins off the bench in the league.

Bassette doesn't strike me as someone who would let expectation weigh him down
He's certainly got a swagger about him, I think he'll justify the hype.
Yeah forget about the plan/model we're following?
He will but he's going to have to be patient, while we get some fund's for Simms or Haji or both likely this summer or before in the case of Haji!

This is a most sensible argument as it’s obvious that after one or two bad games players can go from hero to zero and get absolutely slated online. Something I do fear for Norm once he’s out of this initial honeymoon period and if he misses a few chances.
I really like the kid and think he’ll be fantastic for us but I just pray he sticks at it once inevitably he gets an absolute pasting for a below average run of form.

As predicted, Simms has been dropped, despite being rested for 70 mins against Spurs.
Bassette has 100% earnt the right to start, and yes, he'll need managing as he's still an inexperienced youngster etc etc, but you can't not play him after his recent performance.

Simms now knows he has serious competition for the shirt, that has to be good for everyone at the club.
A big difference to last season when Godden was the only serious alternative.
Yea and Godden wasn’t really an option … totally ineffective
