2. Defence is shite so we need more numbers back

3. Midfield is getting overrun and can’t control a game anyway

4. Forwards are more suited to running into space

We are creating chances though? It's less that we need to play counter attacking football, more than we just need to play at a higher intensity, move the ball quickly. We are generally one of the quicker attacking teams in the league already mind.

We've had the second highest number of shots in the league! Opta says we've got the second most 'fast-break' shots in the league.

100%. We play our best football against oppositions that like to have the ball and think they can play around us. We look lost when we have to break down a very defensive team, whereas when we’re on a quick break we seem to be way more threatening.

The way we attack currently usually results in there being no space behind the opposition’s defence, and as we don’t seem to have a player like O’Hare that can unlock tight defences well, it means we just knock the ball around with no purpose, resulting in loads of crosses which usually get headed out.

There never seemed to be anyone far post or beyond against Swansea, which is where most crosses ended up going.

I have my own opinion that we’re better playing direct, counterattacking football but again, we’re 6 games in. When we hit some good form I genuinely get the impression we’ll go for decent run.

It’s a cliche for a reason, but momentum is so important in this league. We’re also not the only team to start off slowly.

The vast majority of teams do it now. If I can just get hold of the data I’ve been really wanting to do a meta analysis on it, I’m convinced it’s a bollocks idea.

On Saturday Dovin had the ball more than once with most Swansea player in our half and instead of launching it long he rolls it out to our backs.We just don't seem to put enough pressure on teams.

Judging by that report I'm stupid( don't all agree ).My thought on this are you put 1 or 2 players on the half way line forceing 3 players back .Leaving less attacking players and less chance of a stray leg or even worse hand deflecting the ball.Easier for the keeper to see whats going on as well.
Free kicks no one seem to put a big defender on the line any more why?

We could actually press really effectively, our four most offensive players all have pace and acceleration to make it work.

Well Bassette actually does it properly but gets support from nobody else meaning he’s wasting his energy. Eccles was doing it for a bit when Simms just stood staring at it, again that kind of sums the team up at the moment.

Agree. Faceing up to goal kicks on Saturday we had the hound and Rudoni marking their backs and keeper Asante and Wright marking no one big gap then to the half way line empty.Like I keep saying not following orders get word sent to them via another player still persist take them off.
Were so disjointed MR needs to sort things out.

Well when you have the likes of Allen playing you can forget the press

I think one of the reasons we went away from counter attack is because it just doesn't seem to the players we had up front.

Basette looks like he'd be perfect for counter attack football as we saw against Spurs. In terms of play style, he's the Vik replacement we were looking for.

Simms is still our best striker and like last season, there’s a lack of good chances for him. Basette is 19 and is energetic and raw but he is a longer term project and probably does not have the skill or consistency to start regularly in a Championship campaign.

Sorry but most of the time all he had to do was get it anywhere in their half outside their box and Bassette , MVE or someone with a bit of pace would have made it very hard for their defenders.He even rolled it out when the clock had stopped at the end of added time with the ref. about to blow his whistle might just as well held on to it for a few more seconds.

Agree and it’s the same point as mine.

Even if one player is doing it properly it’s entirely pointless, so by default it isn’t actually being done properly.

Oh for sure. I'm just saying I'm not sure the quick counter attack suits Simms.

Simms seems to be more suited to balls in behind that he can run on to, which for some reason we rarely play. It's all balls to feet with his back to goal or crosses.

Yes I think a bit of tweaking will sort things out. Rather than panic and go for radical changes.

Sakamoto I can understand. Simms is big so can help defend. Leaving up at least one of the smaller players I'd definitely agree with, especially if they had pace.
