I’m sure when he first signed, MR was saying they’d train him in the work ethic they wanted?
Anyway, I think he’s good…with the potential to get better.

You can coach better technical skills into a player (up to a point). It’s much harder to instil drive and motivation into a player who doesn’t already have them.

WBA fans didn't dislike too much. They only seemed to point out occasionally first touch could be better. Also he scored the amazing goals but missed the easier chances.
I always thought he looked WBA's biggest threat against us in recent seasons. I think we can improve him and was a great buy. I think he has been one of the few players so far this season to look more likely than the rest during our poor start.

QPR away was another good one. He went toe to toe with their defence and bullied them all match.
He's certainly capable.

He scored 12 goals for them last year and even it they were spectacular they count. His goals for us so far have been decent goals, yet to see the spectacular, so maybe he hitting an age where it’s coming together for him. Excited to see more from .

Simms also ran both Wolves and Man Utd's central defenders ragged.
Hasn't been great so far this season but he'll get there. Completely different type of striker to BTA and Bassette so gives us different options and styles of play
We said the same, but then he carried on and got his goal.

Bassette is too raw to start IMO. I’d have him for the last 20 mins or so and BTA or Simms to start based on form. You want three strikers really.

Asante and Simms could be a good pairing but i cant see Robins playing 2 up top anytime soon. Asante's work rate is going to give him the advantage against Simms with 1 up top. Robin's has to hope it creates a positive reaction from Simms and he starts to understand what the team needs from a player in this system. Simms is not a bad player but main asset is not running defenders into the ground and forcing mistakes. He will get his chance and will have to grab it with both hands, but if i was Robins id be keen to see both together at some point.
Or an interloper nicks in and steals them!

How I have seen it is that mostly the striker has been pressing on his own, with little support from others making it a thankless task (and hence some of Bassettes complaining). Last night was pressing as a team and reaping the rewards

For me BTA had an excellent game last night.
I also suspect that we will get much more consistent performances out of him than Simms - BTA is always willing to do the running and gets himself involved, bringing others into play whereas Simms does struggle to impact games at all sometimes. BTA will probably consistently deliver 6-7/10 performances whereas with Simms it's more like a 5 or an 8, no in between.

Clearly the best combination is talent and hard work but history shows that forwards that work hard but are short on talent don’t consistently score goals ….
I don’t buy at all tha hard work alone is the reason for our recent success. Vik and Hamer have an abundance of talent too. Simms and Wright scored nearly 40 goals between them …..

I think it also depends on the position and the demands on the player within any particular system.

In 7 more league appearances if Wiki is correct too. But I’m not writing Simms off and consigning him to the bench. BTA’s shirt to lose now but Ellis will get plenty of game time.

Might be a bit Adi Viveash but if the softly approach of taking him to one side and telling him isn't doing it then maybe in training make not pressing more onerous to him than pressing. Everytime he fails to do it make him do a lap or 20 press ups or something. Make the press the easier option for him until it becomes second nature.
I hope BTA scores 25 this season I really do my point is that I don’t think he’s a clinical finisher and he’s 26. I’m not sure how much more we can expect his technique and composure to increase from this age on.

I just don't see how BTA could score less than Simms if they were both given the same opportunities. Bassette looks a menace and still has room for Growth. Wright looks silky and knows how to take a chance, BTA is strong and has an engine, Simms erm pokes some in occasionally.

It’s not all about goals. His all round game on Tuesday was very good. Wright doesn’t score the second without him pressuring the defender.
Long term I think Simms and Bassette have more potential, but I’d stick with BTA for now.
