We definitely haven't seen the best Mason Clark, but it cant be easy for a young player stepping up a level into a struggling side with a big price tag. He has the athletic attributes to be a very good player, and has shown some nice things already. He just needs more time to gain the confidence, to show more consistency in his performances and end product.

It was also fascinating that when he wanted the best team out there he made decision to revert to sakamoto who with his bravery took another whaking and the best LB we have and the best new striker we have and kept everyone out there as long as he could none of substitutions on 60 minutes although I was getting a bit peeved in those latter moments that he wasn't using the substitutions to run the clock down,, guess that's why they call him squeaky!

To be fair to Robins, both tats and Bidwell have been given plenty of game time so far this season and neither has played particularly well compared to previous high standards. Its not like they have consistently been benched.

Only woke up in time for the second half (it was a 2.45am kick off where I am, I’m not lazy) but all played very well. Wright looked to have a different mentality, epitomised by that tracking back tackle.

I’m not sure on EMC a bit like he doesn’t feel he belongs at this level. Maybe the price tag is playing on his money mind as well.

He drifts far too much into the middle from the right.

I think he will need a few games to feel he belongs in the championship, get his confidence up, obviously the championship is a faster pace and playing against better players hopefully he will come good with the more he plays

Night and day to the leeds performance. Kitching wasnt great with alot of wayward passing but otherwise id have said we were 7s and 8s across the board. BTA led the press brilliantly and Eccles, Sheaf, Rudoni really bossed the middle of the park. Hopefully we folow up with a win at the weekend and that cinfidence boost helps eliminate the errors that we're still making too many of

He'll have dried out by Saturday against his favourite team!!

Watched quite a bit of EMC at Peterborough from January onwards and liked what I saw from him.
Hopefully once he gets one goal he should feel more comfortable at this level.

One slight criticism of him I've noticed is he can ball watch a bit and lets runners go past him. Probably got away with it more on MVE's side tonight.

Yes I noticed the ball watching / lack of anticipation / not tracking as well today.

Perhaps partially due to the step up from L1 to the Championship and increased pace of play? And partly tiredness, I honestly thought he looked knackered for about 15/20 mins in the second half, then got a second wind.

There was a moment tonight where Wilson had the ball and they all trotted to the left hand side including EMC, why not try something radical and leave him one on one with the full back on the right and then send it that way and see what happens.

It drives me mad having everybody back if we left two up they would leave three back etc, I am sure Warnock left about four up at one game against us.

I actually thought EMC drifting inside seemed like a plan and thought it worked quite well. He found loads of space in between their midfield and defence at times

Admittedly looked more of an impressive through ball from where I was sitting, but at least he looked up and spotted the pass.
Seems to be a bit hesitant and lacking confidence so hopefully an assist will push him on.

Agree with the positioning though, was okay when we were on the attack but a lot of the first half van Ewijk was against two players

Saka was on for about 6 mins - absolute nonsense. EMC found loads of space inside so why not use it. Also very difficult for MVE to overlap if EMC just stays wide

No, you need a presence there to be able to overlap.

Yeah Bidwell had a good game last night I agree with that. But EMC saw a lot of space inside and used it well. Milan still got forward on the overlap plenty of times

I think we were just thrown by the saka injury. Ephron clearly prefers the left. I don't think it was a deliberate tactic to have him so narrow, just a result of him being used to the other side. And I think it inhibited us, him wider would've stretched the play and allowed MVE to combine with him to get forward more.

Assuming Saka is out for Saturday and EMC starts I think they'll work with him in the week so he stays wider.

It’s baffling to me that people think a professional footballer would lose all sense of anything because he is on the right rather than the left … even after saying himself he’s good with both sides.

It was a horrific pass, but the point is we were in possession and all of our players were with the width of the 18 yard box, when you want to make the pitch as big as possible and stretch play, Sakamoto would have been there, EMC was was in the centre forward position.

Hmmm, EMC coming inside opens up space in the channel for MVE to run into. We're always going to look lopsided because Wright plays with a different objective to the wide right forward, he's so much more direct but likes to drag a defender towards the touchline to get into the space behind.
