Quality of passing (4 Viewers)

Seriously, how is our passing so poor in comparison to the teams we play against? We move the ball so slowly, the majority of passes are either over hit or under hit and we have a bizarre tendency to absolutely blast the ball at team mates from about 2 yards away. I really struggle to understand how it’s as bad as it is and it’s a big reason as to why we struggle with high presses so much as we either give the ball away playing it short or resort to playing it long.

I’m sure someone will try and quote pass accuracy at me or something like that but seriously just use your eyes, it’s so bad and a lot of the stuff that will get counted as a ‘completed’ pass is in fact awful.

Do agree we look like we’ve slowed, maybe it’s confidence scared to take a risk .
plus one touch too many across the team and passing back from the wing backs doesn’t help.

Not only the passing, we have to be the worse team for corner taking and don't even get me started on the total lack of invention at throw in's they are a total joke..

Absolute shite, makes you wonder what's happening in training every day.

Whole squad and coaching staff just turn up and go through the motions it looks like from what we are seeing on the pitch

Or, all the members of the coaching staff are telling the players different things and there is no cohesion.

Playing from the back does not work for us at all, we do not have the quality to play this tactic.

We often go from opposition penalty areas and pass all the way back to our keeper. No one is making themselves available in dangerous areas inside the box. Confidence issue? I do not know but we look clueless.

Never seen such dross in the 39 years of following CCFC and do not know what the answer is.

There is no game plan , or if there was , there’s no plan B .
To play out from the back is simple enough , but we make it look like we’re amateurs.
No pace or guile to beat a player & the lack of a midfielder to put a killer pass through ……. What a mess

Mate you must have been asleep from about 2011-2017

If today was worse than those years then god help us.

The players can pass. Ridiculous to suggest it’s coaching. These are basics. This is pressure/lack of confidence. We’re snatching at things. All under performing teams do it. Then something turns and we start passing better than others.

Shit coaching can only be the answer . Dreadful appointments
Such a lazy argument. On one hand, AV leaving was a disaster and he has all the answers to our problems (exaggeration). On the other, our form for 20-30 games has been poor so perhaps MR should get sacked when AV was number 2.

It’s 9 games in the league, you can’t really judge anything concretely yet.

We’re 20% of the way into the season, things are taking shape. And not just the 4-2-3-1 that’s all MR knows either.

For comparison, Chris Hughton was sacked by Forest after 7 games.

Nothing "lazy" on my part. My posts have been balanced with caveats which are endorsed by the obvious before our eyes. Laziness is blindly ignoring the evidence provided by what we are watching on the pitch, in the managers technical area and the input of the coaching staff.

I don’t think Chris Hughton was a Forest legend. In any case, if we got rid of MR, has there been any succession planning? Are they available and most importantly, will they take us forward?

A brutally honest assessment of the squad is that the quality isn’t there to challenge at the top of the table. It’s a young team that is naive defensively and there’s a lack of leadership to get them through tough moments in games.

MR, the recruitment team and DK need to flesh this out together to understand what needs to happen in January to get things back on track.

Tell them we want a little more adhesion like controlling the ball instead of rebounding 5 yards away, Simms does it, BTA does it Hadji does it MVE does it, you would think that during their foundation years they would have at least had the basic requirement of being able to control a fucking ball at the very least...drives me mad

Another thing is the recruitment, if you sign the likes of people from shag a kangaroo league (we don't know how good he will be yet) what can you really expect? 3 of our best players of recent times were Viktor from Brighton, O'Hare from Vile, Sheaf from Arsenal. Some you get lucky with Hamer for example some you don't (atm) Simms, but if you keep paying silly money for the likes of EMC Kitching etc etc and expect them to turn out top players then you have to spend a massive amount on proven scouts and ours don't seem to prove anything of late, so Doug if you want to use the business model of buying young talented players to make millions off then don't keep going to places like poundland to do it !

They're just not brave enough. Take 2-3 too many touches before passing it sideways or backwards.

The one time our defenders do get a good ball forward through a gap, the midfielders pass it straight back where it's comes from. As a defender it would infuriate me.

Yesterday owls had 3-4 players being brave, taking it on the turn and charging at us. The one time we got it through to Wright he just passed it straight back to Bidwell who was then forced to go back to halfway.

I'm sick of having a team who are not ball carriers. It's really not acceptable at this level

Confidence is one thing but just knowing where players are going to be and what they’re going to do is massive. There’s no certainty that when a player receives a ball he’s going to have certain options on. Which is funny because we’re predictable as fuck in possession and the opposition knows exactly where it’s going next.

I mentioned passing post Blackburn game.
Even though it was a much improved performance at times the passing was poor in all areas of the pitch.
Blackburn didn't take advantage, Wednesday did.

Again, what is more likely?

The entire squad's technical ability has fallen off a cliff over the summer?

Or we're not implementing a consistent, effective tactical system, which means players don't know where their options will be when they receive the ball, so they're constantly having to force the issue and lose the ball more?

Cheap laugh but buy some solvite or PVA to get a grip of things!🫣🙆

My feeling is most of what’s wrong with our passing is lack of movement/options. The stray passes, over hitting and too many touches tend to be due to pressure from being pressed as an option doesn’t present itself quick enough. I’m sure they practice this in training but too many players are hiding.
There’s also a lot of instances where players look up, can’t see an option, wave their hands in frustration and turn around an pass it back to the defence, for the same reason.

This links to the lack of organisation and shape particularly at the back and in midfield when we're defending ( particularly when teams break on us).
Defenders seem to have no idea where each other are either in possession or out of it.

A good player will see the pass before he receives the ball, apart from Sheaf (not always) and Rudoni (very occasionally), I don't see many in our squad with that basic skill. It may sound simplistic but it's very difficult to play transitional football when most of the players need more than one touch.

Too much of our passing involves the centre backs who nearly always pass it to each other for a bit and then back to the keeper who boots it up field or gives it them back in worse positions.
