6 things

1. It is obligatory that Kitching will be booked
2. In his soul Luis Binks thinks he should play on the left wing. MotM for me though.
3. It makes a hell of a difference when you have a bloke who can take corners. Rudoni almost worth his place for that alone
4. Tats much better and in particular switching from side to side
5. Simms is a real handful on his day but his conversion rate is rubbish
6. If you think Eccles is one of your best players at this level, then it does not say much for the rest. Very poor in the last third

Eccles isn’t anything more than a handy squad player, he’s part of the reason we aren’t creating many chances because sideways and backwards passes, many of which are to the opposition, do not lead to goals

He is a backup for Sheaf, but in my humble opinion should not be playing alongside him at the expense of Rudoni and Torp

We had 29 shots today, we create loads of chances

How Eccles is still getting some shit I’ll never know. He was the one trying to drive the game forward from deeper midfield in the first half, switched play well and was doing all the dirty work. Also shot just wide from a decent effort second half. Yes a couple of sloppy bits when he was out on his feet but he was still sprinting the length of the pitch to offer an outlet near the end (even though he was close to not playing at all today by all accounts). A reminder to some….he’s a defensive midfielder !

Yup. Eccles was fine.

Dovin 7 - crucial save at 2-2
MVE 6
Thomas 6
Latibeaudiere 6 - good defensively, but nervous on the ball
Binks 5 - Toilet
Kitching 5 - did not really know/follow what he should be doing; he is a defender
Sheaf 6 - cannot shoot
Eccles 5 - looks tired
Sakamoto 5 - struggled
Wright 8 - aggression and bullied the defence
Simms 7 - best this season, looked up for it

Rudoni 7
Torp 7
Binks 5. Do you understand how you break through a press ?

Tats was excellent first half. It was his third man running that created much of the space. He tired second.

If we are going to see some competition for places then that can only be a good thing, but I think your comments regarding Eccles are mad. He has been our best midfielder this season, and is as good as, if not better than Sheaf. To call for him to be dropped and describe him as back up/a squad player is nonsense. He has played every game this season, 44 last year, 34 the year before. He's one of the first names on the sheet.

Simms was a handful all game.
Simms and Wright down the channels caused them issues.
Torp was much better suited to that position compared to sakamoto.
Dovin good save
Defence shocking still though.

Take the 3 points all day though 😍😍

Agree about Torp but I think there's massive questions about his stamina.
Not sure he can give us that for 90 minutes

Dovin 7 - Good saves in the second half to keep us in it
Lati 8 - Showed good leadership and was strong throughout
Thomas 7 - Decent enough
Binks 7.5 - Think he was actually really good today
MVE 7.5 - Much better than versus QPR
Kitching 6.5 - Hard to mark due to his strange position on the pitch, did alright I think...
Sheaf 7 Generally solid, did some things very well, but cannot shoot
Eccles 7 worked very hard. Not everything came off either. Went unnoticed, but his ball out when we should have got the 4th was class
Sakamoto 6.5 - Drop half a point for the penalty giveaway. Hopefully will click for him soon as he is a great player. Saw a bit in flashes today
Wright 8.5 - MOTM. A terror for the opposition the whole game
Simms 8 - Best game in ages. Great goal as well

Subs
Rudoni & Torp 8 - Both were the difference for me when they came on. Torp is really trying to make a point at the moment. That finish is something we needed badly. Never going to happen but would play both of them in midfield next game with Eccles.

Overall this game was fucking massive. To come back in the way we did might just be the kick up the arse we need to move on this season. Absolutely delighted this afternoon with that! Quite proud actually as I think we really worked for it and therefore deserved it.

Honestly don't believe Torp can gives 90 minutes.
Really Hooe I'm wrong because he had a huge impact today apart from his goal but I think there are stamina issues.

If he can give us that for 60-70 mins we can change it then …… he certainly won’t build up his match stamina playing cameos.

True, but his performance against Stoke was a thing of nightmares.
I hope he can sort that and earn a starting berth.

I also think Torp looks better alongside Sheaf imo. It’s the same with Eccles, looks twice the player alongside Sheaf.

Today Torp offered us something we don’t have without him, some lovely passes and of course his finish. A shot that Sheaf nor Eccles would take on their weak foot. In fact, before Eccles went close with a shot, in a similar position he passed up the opportunity to pass it in the box or shoot and ended up playing it wide to MVE.

The pathetic hate for Eccles continues
He's been fine this season , a lot better than some of the favourites
Yes and no. Outside of the final third, he’s great. When it comes to shooting or passing to players in the box, it drops off.

Against Middlesborough, I’d keep the team as is, even Rudoni at LWB.

I think Sakamoto's first start in the central position was promising. It means he can move across the pitch and as we know he can cross with either foot. Despite his size he holds onto the ball really well, which really helped today. His energy also made a difference. He made some costly errors but I wouldn't write off him contributing again in that position.

Really? I weren’t overly impressed and believe he thrived more in wide channels where he can isolate a fullback.

Centrally, he gets the ball and runs into too much traffic.

I don't agree. Some of the best football Eccles has played has been when Sheaf was out injured.

He's a very capable player in his own right.

What was the last game he got an assist or a goal?

He’s a developing player still, capable in his own right agreed but I do not believe he has star quality yet. Him being taken off corners will cut his assists and xA too.

A steady 7/10 player is where he’s at atm.

Today Torp wasn’t alongside Sheaf, he was in front of him. Which is where he should probably stay

Most of the midfield are poor generally poor with their goal contributions, I do think it is a problem. Today was Sheaf's first assist since the 2022/2023 season, and it was literally a 5 yard pass to Torp who smashed in a banger.

Eccles is a really decent player, and I think your tendency to watch football matches through football manager type stats doesn't give an overall perspective. A steady 7/10 is harsh in my opinion, but its still a bit of consistency we aren't seeing from most of the other players yet.

His job is to win the ball and keep recycling it. As has been shown on a thousand times for people like you he is not a sideways and backwards passer at all.

Great performance all round. Although I don’t think we’ll see kitching at LB/LWB again any time soon.

Rudoni, on that performance, seems to be a revelation in that position. I thought he was brilliant today.
Many have been saying Torp was better further forward. I actually thought he was decent vs QPR too. I also thought Tats didn’t do too badly.

I’m now gonna have a drink and bore people with tales of today’s match and our future push to the playoffs/autos.

PS
My 13 year old son was buzzing. When we got the winner he started hugging everyone round him.
Thanks Cov! ☺️

Stand out players were Wright, Milan, sheaf and Binks.

Simms did some bits very well and some bits awfully. He is technically quite poor but his physical attributes make him a threat at this level and a great header for the goal.

Good save from Dovin when the game was level.

Think we need 3 players to make this a solid team. A top quality LB, a commanding CB and a top CM. I think a lot of the players we have will develop nicely over the next 2/3 years but they need some quality players alongside too.

Whilst most played well, we continue to give away stupid goals and that needs to be solved.

Also I'm sure many will disagree because of the lack of a card for their player 2 minutes before kitchings yellow, but I thought Bobby Madley had a good game today.

I agree. Thought it was the best performance by a referee this season.
