Why do we frequently start the season shit ? (1 Viewer)

Why does this happen so often ? Surely lessons must be learnt from previous seasons. I get last season in the context of the squad overhaul but surely this season we were good to go.
Admittedly the coaching staff have changed in their entirety but with our sequence of opening fixtures we should be in a far better place than we are. I'm not a Robins basher but this appears to be a recurring theme

Simple. Our defence is shit and has been shit for quite awhile. We give ourselves an enormous task just to stay in a match, let alone try to win it.

I think you’ve answered your own question there. My guess for this season is the complete restructure of the backroom staff. Let’s hope things have finally ‘clicked’!

To be fair think this is a bit of recency bias.

In 2019/20, we were in the playoffs doing really well at home but struggling away.

In 20/21, we struggled to adapt to life as tried to keep playing our style of play. Think we all accept this was always going to be the case.

In 21/22, we had a great start and went top against posh with a 3-0 win a home and dropped off. Probably our last great start.

In 22/23, we had the stadium issues caused by the pests and a brand new centre back line up to bed into the club as they weee playing at their highest level apart form faz. Due to this match fitness was hard to come by and we struggled to build patterns of play.

In 23/24, as you said we had a brand new squad with the majority not playing championship football (of the lads brought in). As such they had to bed into, don’t think our start was awful performance wise but took everyone a while to get it all set up right including Robins.

This year, I don’t know 100% think you could argue big changes behind the scenes, young lads coming in with no natural leadership at the start of the season and Ben sheaf being out.
