Whoever wins the world is fucked. American hegemony has been awful for the world, just look at it; ignorance in their isolationism of Nazi Germany and a similarly expansionist Japan, the decades long continual bringing of the world to the brink of nuclear war and the destabilisation, followed by the occasional ill-thought out hasty exit, in the Middle East in the pursuit of oil and the aspiration of nation state building.

If the US elects Trump and they return to isolationism, I say the UK takes over the world again. Last time we did so, we abolished slavery, kept our squabbles with Russia to a mere one war (Crimean War) with the odd imperialist rivalry (the Great Game), and a near unprecedented century long world peace. Rule Britannia!

(Before anyone begins a frothing at the mouth tirade at me, the above is mainly satire)

Doesn’t really matter as it’s so close
Agree to an extent but Brighton is suggesting a big win for Harris and last I looked Trump had a marginal lead in most of the swing states.

I did see the one Iowa poll has confused things though.

Last couple of days everything seems to be showing a big swing towards Harris.

Everyone talks about the 51st State, no one talks about the 49th County.

Fair enough, not been following closely.

It’s all been margin of error stuff, and there’s been a lot of wish casting. I also suspect Harris has been suppressed because pollsters don’t want to underestimate Trump again and there might be some correction.

Isn’t Trump favourite?
That was my initial reading of things, but I think the polls are genuinely making the same mistake as in 2022 and underestimating Democrat turnout. There were widespread predictions then of Republicans sweeping the Senate and House, and the polls supported those. In reality, Democrats kept the Senate and the House was just narrowly lost as basically every Trump endorsed candidate lost their race.

Grendel is probably correct to say that this time the Republicans will take control of the Senate, unless Ted Cruz loses his seat in Texas. There are a good number of states today with direct ballot votes on abortion as well, which should further add to Harris votes. So I think states where the polls are claiming a tie, or Trump +1, will actually be Harris +2/+3.

Final thing to mention here is that owing to how the votes are counted, it will look initially like Trump is doing much better than he actually has done, and it wouldn't shock me if he tries to claim victory before all the postal votes are included.

If only there was a recent example of how MAGA react to losing.

Oh yeah, there are more than a few idiots that cannot behave. If Harris loses it will be the entire left of the political spectrum in floods of tears though. After their sneering and bullying it will be a delight to watch. There is a serious lack of awareness coming from many on that side, and the whole pretending to be compassionate bullshit is very superficial.

That being said, the media are such weapons it is very hard to tell which way the election will go. Here is a reminder from 2016 though.

I think the point being made is that floods of tears is not the same as rioting & large scale disorder.

Yes as I said, one side’s meltdown is very different to the other. Being in floods of tears is a little different to storming the Capitol with weapons!

It's reasonable to condem the Capitol but accept the left have a massive problem accepting democracy as well.

Attempted assassinations and attacks on Trump supporters are absolutely not fine at all either.

That sounds plausible

Well yesterday the story was that Taylor Swift would be attending KK's last hoorah, she went to the Chiefs game instead, interesting finish and much the better choice.

The most common adverts I am seeing is about how KK is going to do this and that and everything will be wonderful and I am sure I am not alone in wondering why this has not been done?

Also campaigning on Change, hello you are the one in power.

My first job was working for a Bookie

That is not how they work, the idea is that is does not matter who wins they still make their margin assuming they have a balanced book. That is a reflection of who people are putting money on.

Still think KK will get it.

Fully expecting Trump to claim victory by 2am UK time.
