Trump is a dangerous sociopath. I have no clue what Harris is like but from what people are saying she’s not great either. How it came to this that USA has these two as the best choices, it’s incredible really- but also another example of the power shift in the world, away from USA. Dark times all over the world unfortunately.
Another false equivalence.

Harris has flaws. Everyone does. It's called being human. But whatever flaws she has are nothing compared to Trump's. She will get things wrong. Trump may very well undermine the entire democracy.

Oh dear.

You are in such an echo chamber it's actually laughable. Even when you step into the real world somehow you only bump into other leftists. The only thing that qualifies as madness here are the tightening straps on your blinkers.

Fuck off with your "echo chamber" bollocks, eh, that's just you not liking the facts but not being able to deny them. It's not laughable, it's actually rather pathetic.

So let's just run through it again:

Who tried to overturn the results of a free and fair election in 2020 and still can't accept the result?

Who has said that the only way the Democrats can win this election is by cheating?

When did the American "lefties" ever in recent history, organise to try to overthrow a democratically elected government?

Inconvenient, dealing in facts isn't it? Maybe the echo chamber is between your ears mate.

That was my initial reading of things, but I think the polls are genuinely making the same mistake as in 2022 and underestimating Democrat turnout. There were widespread predictions then of Republicans sweeping the Senate and House, and the polls supported those. In reality, Democrats kept the Senate and the House was just narrowly lost as basically every Trump endorsed candidate lost their race.

Grendel is probably correct to say that this time the Republicans will take control of the Senate, unless Ted Cruz loses his seat in Texas. There are a good number of states today with direct ballot votes on abortion as well, which should further add to Harris votes. So I think states where the polls are claiming a tie, or Trump +1, will actually be Harris +2/+3.

Final thing to mention here is that owing to how the votes are counted, it will look initially like Trump is doing much better than he actually has done, and it wouldn't shock me if he tries to claim victory before all the postal votes are included.
Of course Trump will do the same as last time. Claim victory after the early lead he's almost certain to get from postal ballots etc. then claim it was rigged if that lead disappears. This time he's even more organised as he'll point to the very dubious polls showing him winning everywhere. They've probably also put loads of money on at bookies so he can even use that as 'evidence'. His supporters will believe it.

I genuinely don’t understand what type of person sees Trump as a decent human being, I don’t get it. Perhaps he embodies qualities that these people would like to have themselves- ie do whatever they want, to whoever they want, be above the law, shag whoever they want, treat people like dirt, openly misogynistic- all with absolutely no consequences.

Some of it's mad.

Last week Trump tweeted how he loved the ten commandments, despite the fact he's broken half of them (at least).

Ah, the tolerant and compassionate left strike again. 'Fuck you', he screeches. Why is it always so hard for you guys to accept other people's opinions?

We don't need run through anything again. The shit the Capitol has been denounced as not good. The issue is when people on your side of the political spectrum have a tantrum, not only do you not admit, but you turn into Stevie Wonder and fail to call it out like cowards. You're a massive hypocrite, just like most people who claim to be 'compassionate' and 'doing the right thing'. I posted links to Trump supporters being beaten up and it was met with silence... All it has done is prove me right.

The gaslighting by some on here is mindblowing.
Last time round, Trump got bummed by 7.5 million votes, couldn't take it like a man and set Cletus and the boys on the Capitol.
5 people died - you cant both-sides some situations

I don't think you understand what gaslighting means. The Capitol event has been called out. To suggest however, that because it took place, any other bedwetting doesn't count is just childish.

If Harris loses and it kicks off are you setting the scene for 'that's fine because the Capitol happened' or what? Grow up.

It won’t kick off if she loses. She’ll concede and wish him the best.

What will he and his supporters do if he loses? Three quarters won’t accept it.

It was slightly more convoluted than that but no doubt with the end goal of persuading those that signed the petition to vote for Trump
Well they would obviously check what they could get away with before it would be defined as bribery, but its as close as you can get to it.

I wonder what Trump and his supporters reaction would have been had Taylor Swift offered tickets or a meet and greet to those registering to vote for Harris? Bet they'd have been crying 'bribe' from the top of their voices.

Trump's MO is to accuse the other side of doing things he actually does. At the same time he was crying about a 'stolen' election, he was on the phone to state officials telling them to 'find' the votes he needed to win.

You can use whatever word you want. It was a terrible event which has let down the Republican party massively.

I hope lessons will have been learned, but I am not so sure they have been. The issue is that this divisiveness and unwillingness to accept the opinions of others is a matter for both sides of the political spectrum, regardless of this one incident. People won't even admit who they vote for any more because they are scared of getting tarred and feathered. I am curious whether that will have had an effect on the polls as well.

In your view what were the lessons to learn from Trump inciting an insurrection to try and hold power against the will of the people?

They definitely haven't
Freshly out of prison, right-wing strategist Steve Bannon announced he would assemble a "war room" at the Willard Hotel on election night just as he did on the eve of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol in 2020.

The previous "war room" served as a command center for his plot to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

CBS News first reported Bannon would return to the Willard on Tuesday, and the right-wing host also spoke about it on his show.

"They only win if they cheat, like in 2020," he told his War Room show co-hosts.

"We're going to be back at the Willard Hotel tonight in a big FU to Jack Smith, Nancy Pelosi, and CNN and MSNBC suck on this," Bannon said. "And Merrick Garland, my boy, live from the roof of the Willard Hotel, overlooking the ellipse."

So you have no idea, this was my assumption, hence the question.

You’re very fired up- good to see- you like Trump as he embodies your values, albeit a bit restrained for you. Personally I don’t like him, but each to their own.

You didn't say you thought I had no idea though. You asked me 'out of interest'.

It's pretty clear the lessons learned are to accept to defeat, or when you are wrong, and also to respect other people's opinions. Lost on you I know.

Honestly, why are you on this forum? It's another post where you are just prodding for the sake of it. That's literally all you do on here.

I agree that’s what the lessons were. Trump and most of his fans haven’t learned them. The Democrats will respect the result if Trump wins, it will not be reciprocated

We don't know for sure of course, until it actually happens, but it's definitely the way it seems it will go and most likely scenario.

We've just heard from Capitol Police Chief J Thomas Manger, who spoke to the press in Washington DC about an arrest made at the Capitol visitor centre.

He says that at about 12:20 local time (17:20 GMT) a white male entered the south entrance of the Capitol visitor centre.

When the man put his jacket and backpack through for screening officers saw what appeared to be "something in the shape of a firearm" and "two bottles in the backpack", he says.

As the man was standing there, one of the officers noticed a "faint odour of gasoline", he said. The smell was "much stronger" on the backpack and it appeared a bottle containing a substance - which police believe was either gasoline or "some other accelerant" - was leaking.

The man was then detained and arrested, Manger said. Police found a flare gun, a lighter and a torch lighter, he added, and there were also "other articles" in his backpack.

The man had "papers with him" and told officers his intent was to deliver them to Congress, Manger said. Police are still trying to determine "where in fact he did come from" and what his intentions were.

The investigation is "ongoing" and the man is in custody, Manger said.
