voters have named the state of democracy as the most important issue when deciding who to vote for as president

around a third of people asked said it was their top concern, out of the five options given
what the fuck does state of democracy even mean?

I agree that’s what the lessons were. Trump and most of his fans haven’t learned them. The Democrats will respect the result if Trump wins, it will not be reciprocated
Are you on about the same democrat supporters who tried twice to assassinate Trump?

Fucking amazing how republican supporters get called out, but Democrats try twice to kill a political candidate and it's all forgiven and forgotten.

Sky has trump at 8/15

Harris 6/4

What is everybody expecting a trump win?
Everything I've looked at with odds says too close to call therefore (imo) Harris is the value. She might not win, but give me 6/4 on a coin flip and I'd take it every time. The unknown factor of course is stupid Americans.

7 key swing states, Trump said to be on course to win 5 and they're predicted to be the ones that take him over the line but 4 of those 5 likely very close.

He seems to be polling well in swing states even if he loses the popular vote.

Looking at the election coverage on various social media sites, it’s no wonder the USA is polarised. On one platform, the prevailing narrative is that the republicans will ‘sweep’ the swing states. On the other, the exact opposite and reckon Harris may carry

I was watching C4s coverage and the quoted CNNs ‘top issues’ exit poll which was; state of democracy, the economy and women’s rights. Fox’s exit poll was; the economy/jobs, immigration and abortion. A pretty different picture by both opposite broadcasters.

My gut feeling is that Trump will win because Harris is a historically bad candidate and most Dem candidates would probably win comfortably against Trump.

Me opening this thread and realising how little I want to debate Trump with the fine users of this forum

Here we go. What makes Kamala Harris “historically bad”? Hyperbolic nonsense. She’s bang average. And anyone even below average should wipe the floor with Trump. But this is America, after all.

She's not been a particular popular politican in the past. Mucca has a point.

Whether that makes her worse than Trump is a separate argument. The benchmark is very low.

If someone below average should wipe the floor with him and isn’t… what does that tell about the quality of the candidate?

Judging by the Democrat primary of 2020, she dropped out before a single primary vote was cast because she was polling at 2% or thereabouts and Harris wouldn’t have won a primary this year either.

So yeah, historically bad. At least all the candidates in modern history at least won a primary.

I can envisage a new axis of evil ahead, the west versus Europe lies ahead here !
I reckon he wouldn't see full term anyway if he was elected, through either health or being assassinated

I will be honest and say that I didn't even waste my time to go out and vote. I just do not like anything about either candidate and think Americans are screwed regardless who wins.

If Harris does get it, there will be riots and whatever else, litigation, etc.

If Trump wins, not any better.

Fucked up situation to be blunt.

Well, over 70% of Americans in exit polls are not happy with the direction of the country. So, my guess is that ordinary people are not happy with the economy under Biden and have a certain nostalgia for Trump.

Ofc, we know better over the pond… 🙄

In a democracy, the voters can’t be wrong.

Enjoying this BBC coverage actually, for once. The presenters are very balanced.

Also interviewing people in random bars in the US is hilarious. Some of them are battered.

From my American friend in Houston, Texas.

Kentucky has been a winning Republican state since the year 2000 I believe. Not sure it means a lot.

It's far too early to be honest. Most of the early exit polls are in states that are primarily Republican so these metrics aren't so surprising.

Some weird things going on with certain counties extending voting hours though.

Oh, they can. We're proof of that with Brexit. Just needs the time for it to be proved.
