Playing devils advocate here but instead of looking at MR for the run of poor results.
King purchased the club in Jan 2023 and took full control in February.
Since February and the mass of changes to playing staff and the backroom results have gone down hill to where we are now.

is King the problem rather than Robins after all King hadn't even been to a football match before ?


A Stratford-upon-Avon-based businessman, King agreed to a purchase of Coventry in November and the deal was signed off by the EFL on 10th January, making the club debt-free in the process.

“I am honoured and excited to be taking this club forward into its next chapter,” King said.

“To get this deal ratified in just over six weeks and over the Christmas period was a great effort from all involved.

“Already I have been struck by the enthusiasm of Sky Blues fans, with many personally wishing me well and I thank them for those sentiments.

“I am looking forward to the future of this great club and what we can achieve together.”

King systematically dismantled Robin's support network.

He wanted a winning formula and got it from a text book.

What he's unforgivably missed, is the management team and the connection with the fans, built on highs and lows over many years, is what made this club special.

That was the winning formula. He just needed to let them do their thing and support on transfers. But no, the egotistical maniac has ripped the core out of this club.

I am seething.

That’s pretty full on; eggs all in one basket!

I haven’t fully trusted him from the start; people rightly questioned it on here because I had no reason to *not* trust him. Pretty sure Saddle took a fair amount of flak for it. But also, I couldn’t see anything from the start to suggest we should fully trust him.

Either of us could still be wrong, regardless of his recent decisions and changes at the club so I’ll remain on the fence there.

100% agree, King should’ve never interfered with the playing side of the club. Along with all of the other stuff a football manager does, Robins connected with the fans and this has helped rebuild it from the lows of league 2 to where it is today with record season ticket sales. King has massively underestimated the fact Mark Robins was a central figure in the club.
King also doesn’t understand the connection fans have with a club, we aren’t just normal customers, and a lot of us have been reconnected or connected to the club thanks to Robins. I definitely spend more money now with the club in the Robins era then I did during the 15 or so years of decline.

If King had have any sense, if he wanted to remove Robins as manager, he would have bought in a head coach to sit under him, then moved him into maybe some sort of ambassadorial role over time, not an instant dismissal like this

Also to add, why sack him after the 2 wins, yes we lost to Derby but we had improved and just one two on the bounce with a good comeback in one of them. In the statement it talked about performance over a period of time, why not do it after the 5 or so games without a win, the fans may not have been happy still but it would’ve been more understandable. I personally felt before the Luton and Boro games he was at risk, but after those two wins I thought he had begun to turn it around and he had bought a lot more time. It was very odd timing

I agree, and if hadn’t have come off the back of two wins I would’ve got it, but if he had come to Sunderland today and got a draw a win, we would’ve looked at that as a good set of results over the 4 games.
I just think he had more cause to get rid of Robins before those two wins, and he chose not to.

Thinking alittle about the lead up to the situation, it's funny how it fell with the last 2 games Robins managed to win was against the 2teams we played in the playoffs. Life is funny isn't it.

King's a businessman. The commercial side of the club was dire as was the infrastructure. He's sorted that out and done great things, as you'd expect, it's his area of expertise. Businessman looks after the business, great. Leave the football side of things to the football people, that's their area of expertise.

Personally, I’d have given Robins the January window to sort out the team and wouldn’t have swung the axe unless we were genuinely in a relegation battle.

The decision was ruthless and its make or break for King’s ownership. Today’s atmosphere turned on him massively and he needs to prove to the fans that the decision to sack Robins is the right one.

I understand your point, given where the club is right now. But my point was we shouldn't have been in this position in the first place because he shouldn't have interfered in the football side of things.
