Played his best as a roaming 10, imo.
Tbf despite all the criticism of his managerial record and the granny shagging episodes etc imo he was a fantastic player. Rated all round the world but weirdly as always with our own, not appreciated by half the country he's representing.

I'm more sold on RvN the more I read about him. He actually lost Gakpo, Van ginkel and Madueke in the January window and still finished well at PSV. Brought in about 100m and spent 10m
Same. Which makes me all the more certain we’re going to end up with Colin Wanker in charge until the end of the season 😂

I think the idea of not choosing someone because if they are successful other clubs will tempt them away is folly.

This happens at every level of football.

If we choose someone who gets us promoted, we then stay in the Premier League, and he then leaves i’m 100% ok with that.
Also if he was tempted away we'd be compensated

The issue with RVN is he has one decent season and he is off. King will want stability and someone committed to the journey. Is RVN that? I’m not sure…

Soccer Saturday about to do a profile on RvN as odds-on favourite for the job

EDIT: nothing of particular substance, they think it's unlikely

Possibly but who would want him? And wouldn’t he want to prove himself… no matter who anyway, in my opinion it depends on how well we do in Jan transfer market! Sometimes you can find a real gem 🤞🏼

Lots of Managers over the years have a long list of sackings on their Cvs, doesn't stop them getting another job.

Season ticket holder at united told me RVN did nothing special in recent interim stint. Just got midfielders playing closer to each other. Not rocket science as he put it but previous manager clearly couldn't do it I guess

Think I'd prefer lampard or carsley though

I guess only a promotion would attract bigger clubs, by then we'd be in the Premier League and would be able to attract an even better coach.

Was it ever confirmed that he did actually trial at CCFC? Fairly sure Thierry Henry was rumoured to have done the same but it sounds like an urban myth

He never trialled.
We had a scout at the time, who's name escapes me, whose job it was to put forward players who had potential and that we could develop.

RVN and Henry were 2 he identified. It might be in the book Staying up.

Deffo know Henry was offered to us by Monaco when we signed Konjic. We didn’t want to pay 4.5m for him as a winger is what I read

I read not long ago that the reason we didn’t go for RVN was that he was a midfielder at the time…. Not the devastating striker he became. Villa turned him down aswell

As @Deity says it was Ray Clarke. I’m sure the Rick Gekoski book references we passed on Zidane or Trezeguet too.
Will need to dig it out of the loft to check!
There were rumours of missing out on a joint deal for Henry and Trezeguet
