I genuinely think Lampard was probably the most qualified manager in the hat. Personally, would’ve preferred RVN but I never felt like he was down for it. From his perspective, I felt like he was holding out for a lower end Prem/upper Championship job.

As for Lampard, this is make or break for his career to be honest. If he fails with us, his stock plummets. Of the two managers, RVN definitely has more to lose.

What do you mean by 'qualified'?

That he's the most experienced? If so, then in terms of games managed, then possibly, but none of that experience was anything other than underwhelming.

If he'd have been a lesser player but with the same managerial record, there's no way he would be anywhere near contention.

A man whose managerial successes amount to a grand total of absolutely fuck all.

If this is true, I am genuinely pissed off.
All due respect to Robins, his achievements before coming to us amount to nothing of note. Lampard has made a playoff and FA cup final as well as a Top 4 Prem finish. That’s going to be a higher calibre than any other manager in the hat.

RVN had a good run at Man U, finished 2nd at PSV and won the cup. Is that much better than Lampard’s record? It’s not clear cut and RVN has recency bias; he did well in his short-term stint as Man U interim, what does this look like over 12-24 months as Lampard got at Chelsea.

I’m not 100% sold on any candidate to be honest. Managers are like buying stock, Lampard is at a low point because of his stints at Everton and Chelsea (the former being not too bad) and RVN is on a high. In 12-18 months people could be saying the same things about RVN as they are about Lampard in this moment.

What ever will be, will be. I’ll back the new manager 100%.

Lampard wasn’t anyone’s first choice. Most of us would have kept Robins.
However
He has got to a playoff final previously
Lead Chelsea to a top 4 finish
Has the capability of bringing in good loans
Was a world class player and will be respected by the players

Yes his second season at Chelsea was poor. Everton let’s face it no one has done any better since. Even Ancelotti failed there.

Would he have been my first choice? No. But he’s hardly a failure like some are making out
