Not the best no. I'd put him in the top 20. After that, it all depends on what you're basing it on.

There's a lot of shite owners, or owners spending well above their means. Half of which gets brushed under the carpet.

I said he wasn't one of the best owners in English football and you've consistently pushed back against that opinion .. now you think he's top 20 ?

Which is it , and what are you basing that opinion on ?

I dont want this to turn into another RoS v Grendel as we have enough of those. I appreciate you don't see eye to eye and on this subject my views differ from G's, but let's try and remain objective.

Born in 72, being a City fan in my lifetime, I had some great memories of my 'heroes' in the early 80's when I started going, leading up to the cup final in 87. A large turnover of managers and players followed and bar a couple of seasons as the 'Entertainers' under Strachan, it was a largely turgid affair as we slipped down the leagues. Despite being a lifelong passion, spending thousands travelling about, going a whole season away under Strachan without winning a game, crap owners, never challenging for anything, moving out of the ground etc etc it was tough mentally and financially to keep going. Since the return of MR and the Checkatrade Final, some of the best times, especially as they've been family occasions too, have been great under MR and I'll always look back on the era with fondness.

I'm not that bothered that he's gone, I accept it. I dont particularly want FL but again accept him and will give 100% support. But, to tarnish what we have enjoyed and I'd hope most on this forum were there to share some or all of those days, feels more than a bit mucky, and disingenuous.

Anyhow, working day over, all enjoy your evening.

I never mention Grendel. The only reason I did this time was his statement that Robins had been poor for the last 12 months, which is patently untrue.

Possibly the top 3... after that I'm struggling

All depends what you're basing it on too.

Sunderland might be a massive club with a huge fan base but many might not fancy the location or the outrageous pressure and expectations.

So because we had a small period of 3 months where we had some nice wins against Leicester and Sunderland away, we can forget about the rest which has been really, really poor. If you look at the fixtures last season, either side of the winter period, it's scary how bad it is.

We have spent £45m. You can dress it up as money that's been made but even if we started from a squad of 0, we still spent £45m. We've spent more than any side without parachute payments.
How the f~ can anyone argue last season was poor? Sure it petered out at the end when we ran out of fit players but it was undoubtedly one of the top two in a generation and I'd probably argue top.

People focus on us losing 6 in a row at the end , I agree it was a good season

Brilliant in the FA Cup and some good games in the league in winter and against Leeds slightly later on.

Tough start with a bunch of new players - a few months where we kept pace with Leeds and Leicester and Southampton, wins against Leeds, Leicester, wolves and arguably United in an FA cup semi... as a fan of a mid sized championship team what more do you guys want??

It was a mixed season.

Awful start, great middle, 2 fab cup matches, awful finish.

Wolves away and United are 2 of my fav memories as a City fan, as was beating Leicester at home …… the rest of the season was very forgettable.

Summed up perfectly.

We were 20th a year ago today on the 19th November. It was a woeful start. I still have nightmares about that Rotherham away game.

It was a great fun once O'Hare started games in December. There were some individually brilliant days. We beat rivals and had a trip to Wembley.

If the expectation was that final sentence, Robins would still be here for years to come but we probably wouldn't be getting 28,000 for midweek matches for long.

Well in theory we had a very good half season and an amazing fa cup run , we lost just 5 games in 25 between early November and early April

Overall massively enjoyable , the end most of us didn't care after hull

I fear we can forget 28,000 for midweek games for a while. Either way we are not routinely one of the top attendance teams in the division nor do we benefit from parachute payments and has been seen this summer we can't compete with other clubs in the division on wages even when bidding for one of our own players.

Either way you've neatly sidestepped the main point. Outside the teams that got promoted - who had a better season? How many times in the memory of anyone born post cup win have we had a more memorable season?

We’ve currently got the 5th highest average attendance

Yes, on the back of two thrilling seasons and high expectations. Reality is though that we are not one of the big hitters in terms of revenue over the last 5/10 years and are likely comfortably outmatched even now by teams that have enjoyed spells in the prem. All of which remains entirely irrelevant to the main point I was making.

I think he will be in the stands Saturday, with the usual “set to take over officially? Line from sky & media outlets as is the norm nowadays with new managers.

so what you’re saying is that the new manager should comfortably replicate what was delivered in 23/24.

Well somebody had to be convinced to let loyalty go, either Vivash or MR.

No of course not just come out with a load of insults.

Anyway Earlsdon Loyal Blue shouldn't it be, Earlsdon Loyal Sky Blue or is it because you're a Leicester City fan.

Been on the forum for over a decade, ESB was already taken. Great one liner.

COVKIDSNEVERQUIT - well Maddison, Gary McSheffrey and Callum Wilson quit so that means it’s because you’re a Leicester City fan.

My take on last season:
3 months fantastic. A lot of the rest mixed. Poor start with a big staff turnover. Improved, cup run delivered that the owner requested and ran out of steam.

Net spend generated by that awful manager of ours was zero.

We’ve been in the top 10 for attendances of whatever division we’ve been in for the last 12 years (aside from playing outside the city)
