A lot of debate about his decisions. Getting rid of Robins obviously being the key one, which for what it’s worth I can understand. What really worries me though is his core belief that this squad should be top 6. Not only do I seriously disagree with it, but how can a man with no football experience be so confident in that opinion. It speaks of delusion that I worry drives all his other decisions.

Well let's see what we can bring in January.. plenty of time to turn things around with a couple of good additions and the fixtures ease off a bit now too

He has to say that. No team with our defensive unit will ever be top 6.
But he talks as if the current squad should already be in the play offs. There isn’t a position where I wouldn’t think improvement is needed to push us to that point. I just hope he doesn’t think Lampard should be doing it with the ‘deck’ provided.

Fully agree about the squad. I truly believe a midfield of Eccles, Sheaf, Rudoni/Torp and front 3 of Wright, Simms, Sakamoto is good enough for top 6, or at least to seriously challenge it. However in the summer I never understood the optimism from media outlets tipping us for 2nd/3rd/4th. With these centre back and left back options there is no way of a top 6 finish

I’m amazed you would think that midfield is top 6 material. Obviously happy to disagree, but I would argue in quantity alone it’s lacking.

You’re talking about someone who calls his squad “the deck” and is about to appoint Lampard. He may well believe it - which makes it more likely to be wrong.

I think we have some great players, but poor balance in midfield and a bit light in defence (especially experience) I don’t think that was solely down to Robins, and if King thinks the recruitment has been amazing he is sorely mistaken.
It was the same with England in the summer, they were very unbalanced. I don’t feel they replaced Hamer or Kelly, and that has cost us this season. King decided it wasn’t down to recruitment so he sacked Robins, because he felt we had a strong “deck”, but he is wrong.

It should be. It was close last season and the only players we’ve lost are COH and Palmer. Looking at their statistical outputs this season, we’re not missing much!
How did a back 5 of Collins, MVE, Thomas, Kitching and Bidwell go from conceding next to 0 goals in 10-12 games to now leaking an average of 2 goals a game?
Don’t get me wrong, we need 2-3 players to top up the team but we really aren’t far away from having a top team in this division.

Seriously though I was taking to a baggies and a Boro fan the other day and I do think people need to realise having one summer spending money is not the same as building over 5/10 years. Not all transfers, even big money transfers work out. Getting the entire defence right in one summer was always a big ask.

Chris Wilder made one thing very clear. He knows he can get a consistent level of performance from his squad such that the minimum he gets is solid. Then you look at our players going into wildly inconsistent performances and see that they just can’t be relied upon as a group.
