Then operation premier league is fooked.

It doesn't matter who is managing this squad, it's just not good enough without another rebuild.

There's a number of players that need to be moved on. Such as:-

Collins
Wilson
Dasilva
Bidwell
Binks
Kitching
Allen
Torp
BTA
Tavares
Lats

That's a whole team of mediocre players who wouldn't get anywhere near a top 6 team!
And I'm being generous in not including EMC, Dovin and Raphael in the above, as they still need a chance to impress.

Your not getting rid of that number of very average players very quickly.
which means we are probably looking at another 2 or 3 seasons before we can realistically challenge for automatic promotion.
That’s my Prem package binned for next year, didn’t even get the benefit of a relative price freeze this season.

It looked good enough for a decent chunk of last season vs. some very strong teams.

I'm convinced the right leadership and coaching can get them performing consistently.

I do agree with most of that list but add to that list MVE, Wright and Sheaf likely to move in the summer, it is a complete rebuild would only leave us Dovin, Thomas, Eccles, Tats, EMC, Simms and Bassette to start with as the foundation of the squad from next year, as anyone who isn't moved on from your list would only be seen as a squad player at best, that would mean 9 new players minimum needed next year to even start been competitive. With transfer fees Gyokeres money guessing around 30m to spend but with 9 players that suddenly is spread very thinly

I can see Allen, Wilson, Bidwell and Tavares all going because their contracts end in summer 2025.
Maybe Allen and/or Tavares will get loaned out in January if the new man is able to bring in better quality, I hope so.

I suspect Sheaf will go in the summer otherwise we are going to miss out on a transfer fee.

Agreed, which just shows the extent of the job that the new manager/head coach is taking on.

It also highlights the piss poor recruitment over the last year or so.

And dare I say it, DK may of done MR a big favour, getting him out of the picture before the frailties of our squad are laid bare, and his legacy becomes tarnished.

This summer Wright will be off and likely MVE. Plus Vik moving means a decent kitty will be available. They won’t be staying for a 3rd season in the Championship.

BRB imagining the squad without MvE or Wright

FFS we rebuilt Championship squads on £5m total spend not so long ago. If we can’t do it with £30m the recruitment team is in the wrong job.

On his day Kitching is good. Very good. Its when he's not good he let's himself down and gets dropped. I think he will come good with a more experienced CB alongside him. So will Binks and Thomas but Lati is beyond it IMO

Not giving him grief as such. I just think we spent a lot of money for him to be on the bench so need to decide what we want to do with him.

Our two best CBs are Kitching and Thomas by quite a distance and FL and his coaching staff need to pick up on this.

Let’s delve into some clean sheet data:

Latibeaudiere has only kept 4 clean sheets as a CB in 31 matches (CB only). Binks too, 3 clean sheets in 37.

Compared with:

Thomas - 17 clean sheets in 66
Kitching - 14 clean sheets in 41 (3 in 7 24/25 to add)

Play him instead of Binks is the obvious conclusion
I don't see why kitching deserves to be ahead of Binks on performance. It's that old adage of someone becomes a better player when they're not playing.

Kitching has played 7 games and we’ve kept 3 clean sheets. Binks has kept 1 clean sheet and Lati has kept 2 at CB in 17 games.

We’ve conceded 25 goals which is joint 18th in the league. That is clearly a priority to address immediately. Comparatively, we’ve scored the 7th most goals in the league.

Come on two of those were early stage cup games, basically U23 matches.

Is that the same as Wilson? Too small a sample size for me to draw conclusions.

Binks looks a better player to me and individual stats back it up. I do hope kitching comes good but he's had some awful games where he doesn't look up to the level.

You’re a professional nit picker.

Both Oxford and Bristol City are Championship teams and both teams rotated their teams slightly. It’s not Barrow or Bromley.

Besides, there’s enough data from this season and last to establish that we keep more clean sheets with Thomas and Kitching at CB. Binks has kept 4 clean sheets in 37 appearances and Lati 4 in 31 games at CB.

Do the research man. Lati and Binks have played over 30 games at CB and you can count their CS on one hand individually.

And Reece Charles Cooke holds the all time CCFC record for clean sheets in a row. You won’t convince me one man has that large an impact on team performances. Especially as everyone’s theory is Lawrence was organising the defence well and that was the difference. The stats are above, man for man he’s not performing above the others.

I know binks hasn't been involved in many, a clean sheet is not an individual stat so unfair to judge someone's performance solely on it.

It's almost the reverse of when Wilson kept 22 clean sheets. Does that make him a top championship GK?

Clean sheets is a team stat, of course.

The players this season and last are the same, barring forward players. Therefore, the only variables that is changing is the CBs.

Thomas and Kitching have played mostly as a pair and they have the most clean sheets. There have been enough games that Binks and Lati have participated in (37 and 31) as a CB and they only have 3 and 4 clean sheets respectively. There’s clearly a trend emerging here and I suspect that Lati and Binks are in the team for attributes not relating to their defending.

Whilst they are not a perfect combination, why do we get more clean sheets with Thomas and Kitching as a CB pairing?

I would of done that a bit differently.

That's just giving the opponents Glicko-2 rating as a starting mark for working out an individuals rating within a team.

Doesn't have home advantage added which isn't a problem. It is easy to change.

I would do it differently though now.

All this stuff was just to test some ideas out. Never meant to be completed.

Let me have a dig around. 5 mins

The difference is not the players. It is Adi. King said he fell out with Robins after the interviews were published in the Telegraph. Around that time it went pear shaped. Look at Sheffield Wednesday, West Brom and Hull. The change of Manager/Coach has transformed their seasons so far for the better or worse. Corberan has had a top 6 team sold from under him and he is still managing to hang on near the top of the league.
King was pretty clear he would not have Adi back which possibly means there is more to the story than just a Robins fall out. I am not advocating all the bollocks conspiracy theories either.
We had better get a top coach or we are screwed. Carr has done well and may be the answer. Hard to tell, but I don't think he will get the chance.

The biggest issue you have in this is adding new players into the system. Elo moves too slowly as you can see from the link below when you add season on season. it takes too long for everything to even itself out with team movement as well as individual movement.

This is what I was looking at when I was doing this. Just using footie as a source.

There are better ways to do this with over a 10% better accuracy.

Not bad for a doing something on a whim though. Blame Hill83

That's the one.

Edit:

This may help some newbies out.

Have fun :)

Kitching had a few chances this season and messed up so was dropped. His clangers tend to be bad ones.
But Binks is poor so whatever give him another go. Hardly an embarrassment of riches.
Getting fullbacks to stop balls being pulled back into the box would be helpful to the centre backs, very hard to defend ...

I didn't understand why Robins played Kitching at left wing back versus Luton rather than Binks who looks and plays much more like your typical physical full back. It was a bad call.
