This team is performing below the levels of the Biamou / Walker / Shipley team
how can that be
Are they poor players
Do they not care

I am hoping that Frank can sort them out, and irrespective of taking a loss on them, if they dont want to play - ship them out

If they've been poorly coached since the summer, then it'll take a while to fix that - repetition creates habit, so they need to unlearn some of the ineffective stuff and have time to learn the new bits. Don't think the players are bad, don't even think they lack spirit, but they do lack the confidence and the togetherness that makes a winning team.

Confidence is in the shitter, lads if you look at the XGs have been unlucky and think they look like a side scared to have a go as feel it goes to shit when they do. When I used to play Rugby, my head would drop when I made the slightest mistake no matter what else I did earlier which would cause my focus to go to shit.

Also will mention for Cardiff it was a brand new system which has quite a few rotations, they will need to understand the system and think we’ll see a difference on Saturday.

Think we need to keep the faith. I think while some performances are beyond poor, this is the same squad that beat Wolves and took a Man United team to extra time. The ability is there, just need the best tactics to get it out of them and they need the belief in themselves

Lack of confidence has manifested itself and dragged everything down for me. You can tell when there’s simple balls inside that players aren’t taking anymore for fear of mistake or whatever it is.

I don’t believe they’re bad players

At this point I feel like a clean sheet is almost as important as a win to get their heads out of whatever mindset has us conceding 2 or more goals a game

None of those players would get in this squad, nowhere near it.

I don't think there is a lack of effort. There is a lack of confidence, some poor decisions, some poor organisation.
I agree. But there was a serious lack of effort closing the lad down 30 yards from goal…giving him all the time in world to shoot. Aren’t protecting the goal well enough which comes down to all those things you’ve mentioned.

Watch it back. Both Binks and Rudoni start closing him down as soon as he receives the ball. Effort is not the problem, the issue was our midfield getting bypassed completely by two simple passes.

It’s not even some glaring chance we’ve given up, 9/10 times he doesn’t score that.

Rudoni didn't see the scorer behind him and rushed towards the ball carrier rather than blocking his pass or closely marking the scorer.

Poor decision making and poor awareness.

thankfully i dont think its a lack of ability - i think its a lack of confidence and some tactical work, both of which can be sorted.

Ive got no doubt we'll start to move upwards, if we can fix that defence it will happen quickly

Great goal but you can’t be giving him that space. Yes it’s organisation but sometimes it’s the effort to be organised as well. Same as when the ball comes in the box, don’t wait for it…make the effort to meet it and not let a man run free. Protect the goal ffs.

Either way, organisation or effort, we are nowhere near it defensively as a team.

WHAT DOES THIS EVEN MEAN.

I'll still maintain that application is an issue.

If performances levels are indeed lacking then it's a good job we've hired someone recently who specialises in this area. We could ask questions as to how effective that is actually being, but no doubt it will start another SBT shitstorm!

I don't think they are. They are performing at Championship levels for starters.

If you are going to rant at least think it through.

Will preface this with Robins being an amazing manager.

But Robins was never a coach and left that to Adi and Dennis, he would support but wouldn’t lead it. Think there’s a lot to be said about how you train leading to how you play and don’t think from what I’ve seen the coaching has been good enough.

Thought the warm up on Saturday was light years ahead of what we’ve seen before and hope with more time levels will rise

We have to countenance the idea that Robins caused this because of the coaching structure. At the time, even McSheffrey outlined his concerns with replacing Viveash with someone like Delaney. This was something I dismissed at the time but with hindsight, it’s possible Robins exposed himself tactically and as a coach.

The coaches not being at the level required right now was something even Robins spoke about publicly i.e. ‘still developing in their roles’.

This same group of players struggled to win a game after Feb and still finished in the Top 10. That is the baseline performance for this group of players and we have improved on last season’s squad. There are shortages still and hopefully that and other areas begin to be addressed in the Jan window.

I am coming to terms with King’s decision and feel if overall our whole coaching staff improve then having Lampard as the face we will be better off. Especially if long term we can bring in more coaches, scouts etc that he knows if he gets a say on the decision to get rid of people like Austin, Williams etc.

A lot of the Chelsea kids that have all come through in recent years is down to Lampard so fingers crossed his ability to work with younger players shows. He might be able to get Torp & Rudoni to become better attacking midfielders.

I loved Robins and didn’t want him to get sacked but I’m trying to now look forward at the positives this fresh face can bring. Onwards and upwards

This is my mindset as well.

Think there’s coaching is already at higher standard with the two who came in alongside Lampard ( Can’t get over we have an assistant who won the champions league in that role).

Assume that will only keep developing with time with a couple people hinting at new coaches. End of the day, I do think the squad is good enough but something behind the scenes wasn’t working, living in hope we see a better display at Millwall

I didn’t realise Joe Edwards worked under Tuchel and the best part is that he left to rejoin Lampard at Everton. Which means Tuchel certainly rated him as his number 2.

The players will surely respond to such high level coaches.

exactly, players are on their 3rd manager, and new coaching staff, it’ll take time to settle down, the only thing that worried me was the effort in the 2nd half, maybe Lampard asking them to do different things, but like you say can’t blame the manager and coaches anymore, we’ve got top quality ones, hope to see a big difference in effort on Saturday.

Just the work required seemed to be higher intensity and related to the tactics. Recently when I’ve seen us warm up we plod along and do a pressing drill, we seemingly did a lot more to suit the tactic this week.

We did the possession work which is on city unseen, and then did a clever shooting drill. Think cov pod go into it a bit more

Rhys Carr’s tenure would very much be a continuation of Robins’ ideas and tactics. Lampard and his team to make some changes and that’ll take a few weeks. Given the ‘diffculty’ of fixtures, we need to picking up points right away and by Jan the team should be well integrated into FL’s tactics and methods.

I don’t think it’s a question of effort or ability. There are two problems. The squad balance is wrong. We’ve got good options in the forward positions but only 1 right sided option. We’ve got two good players in Rudoni and Torp who don’t fit the system. We have 1 right back who has to play every game. And we have three very average centre halves with little experience or leadership. The other problem is confidence which is caused by the first issue.

To be fair I don’t think the squad depth is as bad as we think at times.

If we continue with the 4-4-2/4-3-3 with the transition, you can play Rudoni as the false nine or Torp in that role as don’t think the other strikers would suit it. Rudoni can play the right wing role if needed.

On the centre back issue, we’ve got three and maybe four with Lati, but one has been a captain in his playing career but didn’t get a look in. And the other has been a Captain in the championship for Swansea.

Rightback is the only position in the above tactic I don’t think we have any depth for which is a problem.

Think it is more confidence which to be honest, I think is due to how they were managed. Young players do require more care and without the leaders on the pitch need more support which I think Robins struggled with based on the comments about online use and the Preston reaction.
