Yeah I was at both games and I can picture the Jimmy Case goal very clearly. I doubt the first game was on a Saturday though - seem to recall it being a midweek night match? So disappointing to lose the home replay after such an awesome performance and atmosphere at Anfield.

I went to the first game at Anfield when I was still at school. About 8000 Cov fans there that night. We drew 2-2 and there was aggro outside afterwards. They tried to rob my mate’s coat and a few coaches had windows smashed. If I remember correctly it was a really foggy night and took ages to get home. Mum let me go into school late that morning and I wasn’t the only one that went in late
It was a memorable trip for several reasons including my brother's busted jaw by some scallywags mugging him for a jacket come coat and money after getting kicked out by the Bill!

I too along with a mate of mine was at the game, manage to dodge the gangs, thugs, got back to where the coach was parked and it had f***** off, probably didn't want his window smashed in, couldn't find it anywhere so started hitchhiking back to Cov, gotta lift from some Sky Blue fans in a Transit van but they had to just take one of their mates to the hospital in Liverpool, badly beating up, while waiting at the Hospital a coach pulls up with four Windows smashed in, needed to take fans for stitches, the driver was just dropping them off and heading back to Cov, well so I thought, I asked to driver if it was ok for me and my mate could get a lift back and he said yes but he's going back to Rugby, luckily he would drive back through Cov, via the A45 back to Rugby, which was ideal for me and my mate as we lived just off the Kempas Highway, got dropped off just outside the Burnt Post Pub at 5:00 in the morning, with having four windows smashed in and the fog could only go 30 mile an hour max.

Never been so bloody cold.

The Liverpool fans are such a lovely people.

There was always vicious bastards up in Liverpool, cheerful friendly scousers my arse
They are and always have been the worst supporters of all.
I used to prefer going to Cold blow lane than there and that's saying something

Better than mine then. I thought the 2-2 at Anfield was in the League Cup. It was definitely a night match because I didn't get home until about 3 in the morning due to the fog. I thought we got beat 6-0 at Everton the Saturday before.

The foggy night 2-2 draw was definitely a League Cup game.

Plymouth have a fair away following but their resolve would need to be every bit as strong as our following.

There's a Plymouth fan who downloads a blog on YouTube for every away game, just like our Alexccfc99.

Very passionate and honest says it how it is, things like we're s*** and we know we are.

Having to get up at 3 or 5 in the morning for away games, shows commitment.

I look forward to the blog when Plymouth come to the CBS on Boxing Day.

Yeah and thanks to them is why we couldn't play in the Cup Winners Cup in Europe. 😡

Never had any love for Liverpool. The only people I have generally met from that area have been a load of self loving big heads. Whatever you’ve done….they’ve done it bigger and better 🙄

Totally agree. Would put TV gantry up there too. Would look fuller on camera and create more mainstand central seats.
Of course the camera positions are on the other side so they can see the bench.

Yes , very disappointing to lose that . We'd done the hard work at Anfield but Liverpool did what they did best and hats off to them. I'm making the assumption the original match was on a Saturday but to be honest I'm likely wrong . Like you I remember that Jimmy Case goal being an absolute thunderbolt after he ran into space and just blasted it. Big crowd, all the more of a disappointment for us.

I was there that night. It was mayhem outside. They expected to win. The fog on the way home was absolutely horrendous. Took hours to get back.

The Liverpool fans back then had a reputation in the media as cheeky scouse chappys. Anyone I heard go up there had the trouble you mentioned and there was always trouble outside Highfield Rd in the day.

I was there. If it's the one I'm thinking of we lost 0-2 . A Jimmy Case belter early on. We drew 2-2 at Anfield the Saturday before which was a fantastic result given how good Liverpool were at the time . Ian Wallace was on the programme front having scored at their place.
I can remember stuff like that but not what I had for dinner yesterday.
Thinking 0-1. Case blasted one in from about edge of box, in what felt like first minute at the West End goal

Quicker they put trains on Boxing Day, the better for away fans/attendances.

You can't have it both ways, don't risk driving next day etc but there's also no public transport. Especially as the Hornby "drivers" get £1m a year.

Looks like a 30,000 type crowd. Something just 6 years ago we could only dream about.
My first ever City game in 1977 was a League cup replay v Liverpool and there were around 36,000 there. I thought it was always going to be like that 🤷‍♂️😀

My best experience of a large crowd was when, at the age of twelve, I was at Highfield Road for the big match against Wolves in April 1967.

Both teams ended up being promoted from the old division 2 to the top flight but our 3-1 victory virtually assured us of the title. IIRC the official attendance was over 51,000 but the club thought that a few thousand more had managed to sneak in without paying.

The crowd spilled over on to the perimeter track, where the invalid carriages used to park, and there were people on the roof of the toilets and up the floodlighting pylons. ‘Elf and safety wouldn’t allow it these days.

I skipped off school early in Rugby, rode my bicycle to Rugby train station and walked from Coventry train station to HR to get on one of the loads of coaches the club put on. I remember getting back OK to the coach after the game and our fans were getting a bit of a kicking & one fan tried to get on our coach to get away and the coach driver wouldn't let him on. The police just stood there doing fuck all! We didn't get back to HR until about 2am and a young couple let me sleep on their settee & in the morning they called my mum to let her know I was ok, she probably didn't even know that I'd gone to the game, and then they gave me a lift to the train station. My abiding memories from the replay is we were outplayed & afterwards a load of fans made their way from HR to the the park near the ground (Gosford Park?) to try & ambush the scousers and were chased off by police on horseback.

Scouse wankers , even in the league days of the 70’s , coaches parked along Stanley park & walking across it would get ambushed & it was always the old story of them “ swinging out of the trees “ . They would then walk towards the coaches wearing their skyblue scarves that they had mugged people for.
Complete & utter shit & the media always going on about how marvellous these tramps we’re .

I’m another that never had a soft spot for Liverpool and their fans.
First place I had a blade pulled on me at a match . A nothing game at Anfield on a bank holiday Monday which I think we lost 5-0, started with some tramp in his Adidas uniform waving his favourite toy around as we came out of Stanley Park onto Anfield rd.

Took great satisfaction the day Liverpool descended on Highfield Rd for the last game of the season ( 89-90 ? ) and managed to sell 2 unused tickets from my Dads season ticket book, for games he had missed during the season , to a couple of no forehead low hairline urchins from the slums . I got £20 for the first useless ticket, and did his mate a “deal” on the 2nd useless ticket for £15.
And those clowns always think they are the wise grafters !
Poor scally’s … always the Victim
