Frank's Favourites (1 Viewer)

Every Manager / Head Coach will undoubtably have their favorites. Maybe it's a player that the boss just has a higher level of trust in. So, who are Frank's favorites so far (and yes I appreciate we are only a few games into his tenure).

Norman Bassette - Based on what he says in his interviews I think it's clear he rates Bassette very highly. He just seems to talk about him with more enthusiasm than he does the majority of others. That might just be because those interviewing him ask about Bassette so he has more opportunity.

Brad Colins - I'm basing this purely on the fact that Dovin has been fit enough for the bench but Collins has continued to start.

Going last night and seeing Palmer command his area, take crosses relieving the pressure on the defence and coming off his line as well as making a couple of decent saves makes you realise how poor our keepers are and have been for a number of years.
Wilaon,Dovin and Collins all have something they can do well although Im struggling with Collins but why havnt we got a keeper who can perform well across the board.

Collins in particular never comes off his line to take the ball and the other two dont give me confidence either.
Im starting to think the problem doesnt lie with our recruiting a goal keeper but what happens to them when they get here and the goal keeping coach

A step forward would us getting a keeper that can catch a football. Baby steps

While I’m sure it is a slight factor, I would trust/expect Lampard to make personnel decisions based on more than just his personal familiarity with certain players.

You only have to look at the keepers we’ve had since Williams arrived and started coaching them in 2019. Marosi started well by the time he left he had no confidence or ability. Simon Moore the same. Wilson possibly is as he was when he arrived. Collins started well but the Dane has happened. Now we’ve got Dovin, good enough to play international football but looks like a lost sheep.
Seems to me there is one constant and it’s the coach.

Wilson is a much better goalkeeper than he was when he joined. Every other keeper we've had under Williams has gone on to play at more or less the same level they were when they signed. The quality of our starting keeper has very rarely correlated with our final league position either.

To me the main issue seems to be that we are routinely writing off keepers after a few errors, only to replace them with players of similar quality.
