Why Collins? (2 Viewers)

He's hardly going to come out and say he is going to make a change is he, giving intel to Plymouth...
Is he planning a tactical masterclass of playing a keeper that saves a shot occasionally. Think Plymouth would be more surprised if Collins did play given his recent performances.

The way I read it was that FL was saying no he isn't prepared to say whether or not he will be making sure change.
Go back and watch it...I agree with you it's ambiguous, but if I had to say one way or the other then I would say he's giving Collins a vote of confidence and keeping him in the side.

But if he doesnt, and I hope he does, I think the best thing we can do is get behind him
Why anyone would want to get on a keepers case, one who's clearly devoid of confidence, during a game is baffling.

I'd genuinely rather help him get dropped than give him encouragement. If I didn't think he was a complete write off then I'd agree with you.

I've been calling for him to be replaced since last season so my opinion of him was already low before his latest buffoonery.

But when he's on that pitch I'll give him my support, just like the other useless twats who I wish weren't playing.

When does it get to the point when enough is enough? The above seems to imply that you will support him no matter what. If he made another 2,5,10,50 mistakes?

I haven't wanted him in the team since last season. I don't want Dasilva in the team, I don't want Binks in the team and I'm not to keen on Sheaf being in there either
But while the manager is picking them, I'll support them.

I'm not going boo a player when he's out on the pitch trying to help get the team 3 points which is what I'm there hoping you see.

If someone can provide me with evidence that booing and sarccastically clapping players contributes towards improving their performance thsn I change my opinion on that.

Indeed-yes I said it’s counterproductive. I’m sorry, I just can’t give Collins my “support” anymore and that does not mean I will be booing him. Saturday was unacceptable.

If Lampard selects him knowing there's likely to be an unhelpful reaction, then whilst you might argue he's in charge, you'd have to question his understanding and logic. After his record before us and replacing a popular manager, the last thing he needs is questions about his decision making this early on and with no credit in the bank. For all concerned including FL, there's surely no way he can be selected.

I’d rather see someone like Oggy back at the club to asses the goalkeeping issues and whittle the 5 keepers we have down to 2 seniors and a younger option. Even then maybe bring in older keeper with a lot of experience who actually looks like a big strong 6’4 stopper! None of the front 3 keepers look like they can handle any kind of attention from aggressive forward.

He was never going to drop him after the Hull game... that being said my first potential whinge with Lampard will be if he doesn't take him and JDS out of the line up this afternoon

Robins clearly didn't rate Collins, and the reason for that seems pretty obvious now. He shut him out the squad. Robins was never scared of making changes from one game to the next. Why is Collins still getting picked? It's the action of a manager who doesn't know what they're doing. Is it because Lampard doesn't trust a young keeper? Lampard hasn't done anything so far, to alleviate the concerns of those who didn't want him here.
Other than Dabo for a season and the two loanees - Robins didn't rate Adi's Chelsea lot, Collins, JDS and Kane were complete wastes of money and tbh I believe it is part of the reason their working relationship went sour

Dovin needs to be given a run of games.

The Dovin purchase is looking like a slow burn, maybe in 2 years he will come good but he is still very young for a first choice Championship goalie.
Well it's exactly that isn't it?

He's very young for a keeper and we may not see the best of him for a while, but I think he will turn out to be a very good keeper.

Maybe though, we felt we could sell him on and it was a good deal in that regard.

At 22, we certainly shouldn't be writing him off.

He is almost certainly wishing he’d never joined. Dropped in record time for being quiet, then watches his replacement concede nearly every attempt on goal without being dropped himself.

Been treated very badly for someone we invested quite a lot in for a keeper.

It also begs the question, what the fuck is wrong with Dovin?

This was a point I was alluding too in the Portsmouth match thread. If we spend 2 mill on a keeper and he can't even get a game ahead of Collins, than theres a serious failure in the recruitment department.
