Bassette vs BTA defensive actions stats per 90, guess which is which.

I know I'm in the minority here but I think BTA is a useful player & ideal as a pressing forward. His lack of technique badly lets him down as we've seen but he'll get into good positions & eventually score a few if he's given the time. Again, his lack of game time isn't helping him or us & he's probably feeling the pressure & snatching at chances even more as he's desperate to impress.

bassette is a good young player with a lot of potential. He’s being asked to do a tough job in a team that’s struggling a bit. He’ll come good but for now start with simms and bring bassette on as defenders tire and space opens up a bit.

Just so you don't feel totally out on a limb (with current fitness) I think BTA and Simms should be starting with Bassette coming on for one or other of them depending on how the game is going.

One thing I am not sure the stats show well is partnerships. Simms and Wright seems to work, I think Simms and BTA could too.

Rudoni on the left doesn’t work in our system, we would definitely be better with BTA or Bassette out there.

For any squad player not likely to get much game time you want them to have a big impact when they come on late, I don't think BTA quite meets that criteria.

Really? A lot say on here he'd L1 at best and Obikwu is playing in L1 and doing well
Obikwu is playing, although currently injured, in league 2. He’s got talent but there is no comparison.

Dunno why our 20 year old forward has become a scapegoat. It’s obvious he’s talented he’s just not scored chances he should have…where have we seen that before?

I’d swing to Bassette. International and championship regular going off this year.

A lot more potential there, hard to see an argument for Obikwu until he’s in the champ.
Broadly agree. Worth noting though that Obikwu is more of an international than Bassette albeit (most would argue) for a much poorer side.

4 in 9 for Grimsby this season. It's a real shame he has had such bad luck with injuries as there is clearly something there.

The question that needs to be answered is by Simms and that is why he hasn’t made it impossible for Lampard to play him ahead of a 20 year old rookie. At the moment Simms is the better, more proven player. But he doesn’t carry the demeanour of someone who is desperate to be playing

This is the crux of it and why I get annoyed when I see stuff like "Simms deserves to be starting". Worth trying, yes, but he doesn't deserve it at all.

He's 20 years old and only been with us for 6 months. I don't expect him to be our number 1 striker but I also expect him to chip in goals now and then and contribute in being a nuisance.

Once we can control games better, I expect Simms to be starting because he is the better striker. At the moment, while we have no creativity in the middle and are just searching for long balls into the channels. Bassett fits the mold.

It's not all or nothing, he has potential.

Agree with all of this he has potential and the fire in his belly to make it happen that's what Vik had which takes him to a level above a lot of other strikers we have had the skill but the passion and belief that need to go with it. If Simms had half the passion and belief Bassett has hed be a very very good player. I'm not taking a swipe at Simms as I think he will come good like last year but from the outside it looks like their mentalities are very different .

Except he's offside most of the time and that's not true of Simms. I agree with what we should expect of Norm, he's young, but what he's actually delivering currently isn't meeting even lowered expectations because of inexperience. Of the two I think Simms should be preferred but only after a massive shot of adrenaline before the game 😜
